Edward Norton is reportedly a first-time father.

The actor and his fiancee Shauna Robertson welcomed a baby boy in March, multiple sources tell Us Weekly. The couple, who got engaged in 2011 after a six-year courtship, have been mum about the pregnancy -- keeping it a secret until Us Weekly reported the baby news last month.

Although there are few details about the baby's birth, an insider says the pair is "thrilled and excited for parenthood."

"Ed is really excited for fatherhood," a source said. "He helped pick out a stroller for the baby!"

Congrats to the happy couple!

Sofia Vergara Raises Hypothyroidism Awareness, But What Is It?

Actress Sofia Vergara is doing her part to raise awareness about hypothyroidism -- a condition she was diagnosed with following a bout with thyroid cancer that resulted in the removal of her thyroid gland.

"In 2000, I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer and had to have my thyroid removed. As a result, I have a hypothyroid condition and need to take medicine to treat it," Vergara said in a statement. "In my career, I'm known to ad lib and go off-script -- but never when it comes to my health. I make sure to 'Follow the Script' so I get exactly what my doctor prescribed. This is so important to me, because you can't enjoy what you have without your health."

As Leigh Blickey reported for HuffPost Celebrity:

Vergara revealed that she discovered her thyroid issue while at her son Manolo's doctor's appointment in 2000. The physician convinced her to get a check-up and then found out that her thyroid was abnormal just by touching her throat. They did a biopsy and uncovered that her thyroid was, in fact, cancerous.

An estimated 20 million Americans suffer from a thyroid disorder, according to Georgetown University, in which the thyroid doesn't produce a sufficient amount of the hormones that help regulate metabolism, body temperature, heart rate and other important functions. The illness disproportionately affects women, about one in eight of whom will develop some type of thyroid disfunction in her lifetime, according to Georgetown.

Symptoms of hypothyroidism include feeling slow or tired, feeling cold, memory problems and difficulty concentrating, muscle cramps, weight gain, depression and dry skin.

Vergara's condition following surgery is in line with that of many hypothyroidism patients who also underwent partial or full gland removal. Other risk factors and associated illnesses for the condition include autoimmune disorders, radiation therapy and certain medications, like the psychiatric drug lithium.

Hypothyroidism is treated with medication containing levothyroxine, reported WebMD. Some cases of mild hypothyroidism don't require medication and instead are treated with a "watch and wait" approach.

LAS VEGAS — Disney is turning "Star Wars" films into an annual summer ritual.

Walt Disney Co. chairman Alan Horn announced Wednesday that the studio would release films set in a galaxy far, far away every year starting in 2015.

The parade of films will start with "Star Wars: Episode VII," directed by J.J. Abrams.

Horn said the studio will then alternate films in the new "Star Wars" trilogies with spin off films drawn from the same universe.

He made the announcement during a presentation at the movie theater convention CinemaCon in Las Vegas.

Disney announced plans to reboot the space franchise after buying Lucasfilm Ltd. last year.

Sofia Vergara Worried About Son

NEW YORK -- Like most mothers, Sofia Vergara was worried after hearing about the bombings at the Boston Marathon. But she was also relieved that her son, Manolo, who attends school in Boston, was not there on Monday when the attack took place.

Three people were killed and more than 170 injured when two pressure cookers bombs went off near the finish line.

"He just went back to Boston last night because he had class today. But he was here when the tragedy happened," Vergara told The Associated Press on Wednesday.

"Thank God he was not there or I would have become crazy," the actress said. "I know for a lot of mothers it was a difficult time because the phone lines were so busy. I'm sure that for all the hours and minutes – whatever that lasted – I'm sure it was horrible."

And relief soon turned to worry about his return. "Last night it was terrible for me. I told him please not to go into public places. Just go to class and stay in his apartment and try not to be outside," she said.

But then she added: "Hopefully, nothing is going to happen. Hopefully, this was just one horrible thing, and they're going to catch this guy and it's going to stop."

Vergara spoke of the incident while promoting a campaign for hypothyroidism awareness. The actress was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in 2000, and continues to take medication for treatment.

The "Modern Family" actress also addressed her plans to have another child, at some point. For now, she's freezing her eggs.

"I'm 40 years old and things don't happen that natural anymore, so we want to make sure when we're ready – my boyfriend is three years younger than me and has no kids – I wanted to take advantage of science."

But the actress says she has no timetable for a new addition to the family.

"We would like to buy a house. We are also planning to eventually get married. I have so much work this year. So definitely this year it's not going to happen," she said.

Vergara is currently on hiatus from "Modern Family," but has several films coming out, including a starring role in the Robert Rodriguez thriller, "Machete Kills."

Every Time 'Cougar Town' Has Made Fun Of Its Own Name

Gotta love a show that can make fun of itself!

"Cougar Town" creators Kevin Biegel and Bill Lawrence never really loved the name of their series and besides, the show never had much of anything to do with cougars. Despite their efforts to change "Cougar Town" into something else, the title stuck and instead of fighting it, at the beginning of almost every episode of "Cougar Town," the title cards poke fun at the show's name.

Slackatory put together a supercut (above) of all the "Cougar Town" title cards, ranging from "(Still) 'Cougar Town'" to "Welcome To 'Cougar Town.' I didn't know it was back on either. -Abed" and a lot in between.

"'Cougar Town' isn't about cougars or cougars," Courteney Cox explained in October. "It's about friends who are like family and like to drink a lot of wine around a kitchen counter."

"Wine Town" ... oops, we mean "Cougar Town" ... is set to return with a 13-episode fifth season in 2014.

Lifetime is reportedly considering Tania Raymonde for the role of Jodi Arias in "Dirty Little Secret: The Jodi Arias Story," according to TVLine.

The "Lost" alumna is said to be in final negotiations for the role, along with "The Mob Doctor's" Jesse Lee Soffer, who would play Travis Alexander, the ex-boyfriend Arias is accused of killing in 2008.

According to a casting breakdown, the producers were searching for someone "coquettish, head-turning, with a palpable sexy allure and well aware of the affect she has on men" for the role of Arias. The notice reportedly continues, "Jodi is a single-minded, head-strong, quick-tempered young woman. She is hell-bent on emotionally suffocating and controlling Travis Alexander, a handsome young Mormon and motivational speaker who soon falls prey."

Deadline reports that the end of the movie will be written after the conclusion of the Jodi Arias trial. The project is being directed by Jace Alexander and was written by Richard Blaney and Gregory Small. Raymonde will next be seen in NBC's "Chicago Fire" spinoff episode.

Whoopi Goldberg's Insanely Honest Rant

Whoopi Goldberg made it abundantly clear that she has zero interest in who joins the "View" roundtable.

Earlier this year, longtime "View" co-host Joy Behar announced that she was leaving the ABC daytime show at the end of the season. Reports surfaced that co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck was also on her way out the door, though Barbara Walters denied such movement. Walters, though, announced her plans for retirement in May 2014.

At the Vanity Fair party at the Tribeca Film Festival, Goldberg told US Weekly that she was not interested in such personnel issues.

"Let me tell you this about 'The View': I take a paycheck every other week. That's all I do. I could give a sh-t what comes. I do my job -- I have a contract. That's where I stand. I don't give a f-ck," Goldberg said. She added, "My job is to show up and be cute by 11:00 and get the f-ck off that show by 12."

Behar is reportedly writing a comedy act about behind-the-scenes happenings at the "The View." We are really looking forward to it.

The ample hate slathered on Anne Hathaway post-Oscars must have gotten to her because the actress is rarely showing her face around these days. And when she does, it's usually obstructed by some silly hat. What's with the hats, Anne?

We get that you want to protect your porcelain complexion from the sun and we're all for it, but seriously. How many hats does a person need and do you realize that when you pull them down over your face "incognito" style, we can still tell that it's you?!

The 30-year-old was seen in West Hollywood yesterday picking up her dry cleaning and wearing, you guessed it, a hat. A sort of captain's hat, to be precise.

PHOTOS: Rebecca Hall's Jumpsuit Is Anne Hathaway Levels Of Racy

Long before "sideboob" became a widely-used -- and widely-mocked -- term, a young woman named Anne Hathaway stepped onto a red carpet, raised her arms ever so slightly and flashed photographers with the entire side of her chest. You could say it was the one that really started it all.

We were reminded of that landmark "sideboob" moment today when Rebecca Hall walked the "Iron Man 3" red carpet in a low-cut black jumpsuit. She looked gorgeous, with her hair pulled back and a great red lip. But when she turned to the side and stuck her hand on her hip, well, it was Anne Hathaway circa 2005 all over again.

Not that that's a bad thing. Anne certainly recovered fine.

See Rebecca's daring onesie below. Save for the side-flashing, do you like this outfit?

Jane Seymour: Divorce Is 'Devastating'

On Thursday, actress Jane Seymour sat down with the "The View" co-hosts to talk candidly about her recent split from actor/director James Keach -- her husband of 20 years.

"Obviously, it's really devastating," the former Bond girl said. "It did happen a while ago. It was sort of kept quiet."

On Saturday, Seymour's rep confirmed to People magazine that the estranged pair had been separated for several months and were now in the process of negotiating the terms of their divorce.

But unlike many celebrity splits, the breakup of their marriage seems to be anything but acrimonious. Just one day after reports of their split began circulating, Seymour and Keach appeared together on the red carpet at her Open Hearts Foundation charity event.

On "The View," she confirmed that she and Keach remain friends.

"We open our hearts to one another. We respect one another," Seymour said. "We've been together 22 years, and we will be together the rest of our lives raising our children and doing things like the Open Hearts Foundation."

The former couple has a pair of 17-year-old twin boys together. This will be the fourth divorce for Seymour and the third for Keach.

Married this summer, George Lucas will be.

The Hollywood Reporter revealed Thursday that the "Star Wars" director will marry his longtime girlfriend, businesswoman Mellody Hobson, at the Chicago Peninsula Hotel on June 29.

In January, Hobson revealed that former basketball star and New Jersey Senator Bill Bradley will give her away at the ceremony. She met Bradley when he helped convince her to go to Princeton, his former school, instead of Harvard. He's been her mentor ever since, and when she got engaged, she told him he had to be involved.

“I told him, ‘Hey! You’ve got a job to do!’” Hobson said, according to the Chicago Tribune. “He started crying.”

Lucas confirmed his engagement to Hobson, who is the head of investment management firm Ariel Investments, in January. The two had been dating for seven years.

The duo was seen wearing matching denim outfits a la Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears. Luckily, the two steered clear of cowboy hats and rhinestones, and opted to accessorize with black T-shirts and aviators.

About That 'Clueless' Reunion ...

Dionne and Murray are getting back together ... on TV.

"Clueless" vet Donald Faison stopped by HuffPost Live this week and the "Scrubs" alum also talked about reuniting with Stacey Dash on TV Land's "The Exes."

"For all you 'Clueless' fans out there, you'll get an opportunity to see Murray and Dionne together again," Faison said. Since they haven't shot anything yet, the actor doesn't know what's to come of the mini-"Clueless" reunion, but he said with a laugh, "I hope the writers do their research and find a spot for me to be like, 'I'm keepin' it real with her' or something like that."

Excited as he is to reunite with Dash on "The Exes," Faison admits he hasn't kept in touch with most of the "Clueless" cast. He is, however, close with Breckin Meyer (Travis) and he "kick[s] it" with Paul Rudd (Josh) from time to time.

"The Exes" returns to TV Land on June 15.

Tony Bennett: A Battle for the American People

$
0
0

After Sandy Hook I called my son Danny and we both said, "Enough is enough." And those three words say a lot about the need for common sense gun laws but there are three words that I feel are even more important... We The People. It always serves to remind ourselves that the government works for us -- they should be doing what we tell them to do -- not the other way around. What happened in the Senate with the vote for stricter gun laws ignored the voice of the American people. It also defied common sense. Over 200 years ago Thomas Paine, an American patriot, ignited the American Revolution when he wrote his pamphlet called "Common Sense." Somehow along the way we have lost our common sense. When it is harder to obtain a library card than it is to buy a gun in this country, something is terribly wrong. I mean, would you let your neighbor drive 100 miles an hour in their car through your children's school zone? I hope you wouldn't, but regardless everyone has the right to own a care but the safety or our community comes first and foremost. It's just common sense. We must always balance our rights and responsibilities as responsible citizens. This is the same common sense gun legislation that was proposed to the Senate. It is clear that this is a public safety issue and it's about keeping guns out of the wrong hands. And when I say the wrong hands, I include our children. It's simply common sense.

If elected government officials have decided to put lobby money and political interests ahead of the people's interest, then we have the responsibility to tell them, to quote Dr. Martin Luther King, "We are no longer content with business as usual." We need to raise our voices, act now and let those senators who voted no know that they are accountable for their actions. We will not sit still until sensible gun laws are in place. It's just common sense. I served as a foot soldier in World War II, I stared into the eyes of the beast, and it made me a pacifist. More than 3,000 people have died from gun violence since those beautiful 20 children and their educators died so tragically in Newtown. They deserve action for their deaths -- we all deserve action. We owe that to everyone who has died because gun laws have not protected the innocent and have made it too easy for the wrong people to have access to guns. This is about saving lives.

This is no longer a fight for the politicians; it's a battle for the American people who have the power to make change through democratic means. Although my favorite technology is still a pencil, I say we use the new technology of texting to let Congress know that we have just begun to fight. If you text MYVOICE to 877877, you will be prompted by my voice or other concerned friends of mine who have joined me, and you will be connected automatically to a member of Congress who voted no to common sense gun laws. Tell them what you think about and that enough is enough. It's your right as an American citizen to be heard. It's just common sense.
