Eilzabeth Olsen Breaks Her Silence

$

0

It's Elizabeth's Olsen's world, we're just living in it.

After the critical success of "Martha, Marcy, May, Marlene," in which Olsen plays a convincingly disturbed cult member, one of 2011's breakout stars is back for more with "Silent House."

A remake of the 2010 Latin American film "La Casa Munda," the trailer showcases just how creepy Gustavo Herandez's horror movie will be. Shot as one continuous take, the film sees Olsen through a journey of discovering the more terrifying elements of her summer house while trying to spend a little quality time with her dad. It's another untraditionally shot film for Olsen, whose "Martha Marcy" provided a fly on the wall view of a young woman going through a mental breakdown.

"Silent House," which was sold to Lionsgate for $2 million after its success at Sundance, wasn't an easy feat for the "Martha" star -- mostly because she wasn't allowed to get off her feet. "The challenging part was that you're on your feet doing really long shots, and it kind of reminded me of doing a play on film," she told Indiwire. "The whole house was rigged like a theater and it was just an exhausting challenge."

Catch Olsen alongside Adam Trese, Eric Scheffer Stevens, and and Julia Taylor Ross in "Silent House", in theaters March 9th.

Is This Crazy Girl The New Rebecca Black?

Move over Rebecca Black, there's a new viral sensation in town.

Shira K, a young rapper from Pittsburgh, has released "Pound My Muffin," a single that is burning up the web (ironically or not). Probably not about an angry baker, the song has caught fire thanks to its fantastic music video. A brief synopsis is in order:

A hoodie-wearing Shira walks into a bakery and sells a cupcake -- which defies the laws of commerce right then and there -- for an exorbitant sum. She then flashes the cash, dances against a wall and rides on top of a seat of an open-top convertible with a few friends. In between dance solos against a black screen, Shira, her friends and a few drug dealers participate in some sort of sweets-and-narcotics party.

As far as symbolism goes, it seems muffins have been substituted for cupcakes in the video, which may cause some viewers to be confused: is the muffin an allegory for something else, perhaps? Are the two videos connected only loosely by the theme of baked goods?

Perhaps some clarity can be found in the young songstress's tweets. Most recently, she wrote, "bet u thnk this song is about u, dont u? dont u, dont u? it's about SOME1, but it it ain't u. so #RELAX."

A mysterious visionary to the core.

Demi Lovato Goes On Twitter Rant About God

Former Disney starlet Demi Lovato made a come back last year after a stint in rehab, and she did something most celebrities rarely do -- she told the truth.

In the months since the 19-year-old singer returned to the spotlight she's come clean about her struggle with eating disorders, cutting and even admitted that at one point she was "self-medicating" with drugs and alcohol.

She's also used Twitter and her 5.4 million Twitter followers as a sounding board to actually talk about body image and eating disorders in society and in Hollywood.

But last night things took a bit of a turn for Lovato when she posted a series of tweets that leave us wondering if she's doing alright.

Lovato wrapped up her rant by writing, "I'm not very religious but I'm VERY spiritual and I DO believe in God. I'm not perfect or preaching! Just tweeting... :)." And she left it on a more positive note, tweeting, "Just keep swimming...."

With everything Lovato has opened up about in the past year, it's difficult not to wonder exactly what type of "crap" has been thrown her way this time.

Which On-Screen Couple Made The Most Money?

Ron Weasley may have skirted along the poverty line during childhood, but his children are going to be quite comfortable with their inheritance.

Forbes Magazine, in conjunction with Hollywood money site Box Office Mojo, has compiled a list of the top-earning on-screen couples of the past half decade. Though they were in a love-hate relationship for much of the film series, Ron and Hermoine's fateful kiss and bliss-filled epilogue in the final Potter film put them at the top of the list.

The final four Potter films, released between 2007 and 2011, took in $4.2 billion worldwide, including a staggering $1.33 billion for this summer's finale. The series' massive success helped make Watson Hollywood's highest earning actress in 2009, as she took in $30 million in advance for the final two films.

Coming in second on the list are another YA adaptation couple, Edward Cullen and Bella Swan. Their four "Twilight" films thus far have taken in $2.5 billion worldwide, and they have another to go this summer.

Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox came in third for their first two "Transformers" films, with $1.5 billion. Fox did not appear in the third film, which took in $1.2 billion worldwide.

Looking ahead, the three planned adaptations of "The Hunger Games" novels by Suzanne Collins -- yet another YA-based romance -- will look to crack this list over the next few years. Starring Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson, it's a dystopian book with a love story between two contestants in a barbaric battle to the death.

PHOTOS: New Look For Olivia Wilde?

Olivia Wilde isn't known for one particular style (like some celebrities out there) but rather likes to mix it up: one day it's an overly modest sack of a dress, the next it's a bikini.

The actress surprised us again with a brand-new haircut yesterday. Olivia left the Leconte Salon in Beverly Hills with her long locks gone, her new hair just skimming the tops of her shoulders.

Luckily she kept intact her ombre color intact, a trend we still adore.

The cut looks great on Wilde, but there might be one slight issue: the star's new Revlon ad campaign features her glamorously done-up with long tresses falling down her back. We're thinking the next set of ads might require a new 'do.

Check out Olivia's new hair and old hair below -- do you like the shorter look?

Stars Join Hollywood's War Over Bin Laden

Kathryn Bigelow's film about the military's hunt for Osama Bin Laden is on the verge of enlisting three new stars.

According to a number of reports, including one by The Hollywood Reporter, Jessica Chastain, Edgar Ramirez and Mark Strong are all in talks to join the long-gestating project. On Thursday, it was reported -- and seemingly confirmed by production company Annapurna via Twitter retweet -- that Joel Edgerton had joined the picture. Chris Pratt and Jason Clarke were already part of the cast.

In development for years, the film had to retool after Bin Laden was killed by the Navy's SEAL Team 6 early in 2011.

"The attempt to kill Bin laden in the Tora Bora mountains in 2001 was no longer as relevant a story as what had just happened," Edgerton told Indiewire last year, "but then what had just happened was so fresh and as we all know, history often needs time and perspective to kind of settle in everybody's minds, you can't just go and start shooting the movie in the next month and assume that you're going to get everything right and have all of the information. So the project was put on hold for a while while Mark and Kathryn kind of gathered information."

That information gathering also made headlines on Thursday; Rep. Peter King, chair of the House's Homeland Security Committee, announced that the CIA and Department of Defense would be honoring his request for an investigation into alleged secret sharing by the White House with the producers of the film. In November, a CIA spokeswoman said that they would be working on refining the process for sharing information with filmmakers.

"CIA has been open that as part of our public outreach, the agency has over the years engaged with writers, documentary filmmakers, movie and TV producers, and others in the entertainment industry," Jennifer Youngblood said in a statement. "Our goal is an accurate portrayal of the men and women of the CIA, their vital mission and the commitment to public service that defines them. And it is an absolute that the protection of national security equities is an integral part of our mission."

In August, Bigelow and writer/director Mark Boal defended their film against King's initial call for investigation.

"The dangerous work of finding the world's most wanted man was carried out by individuals in the military and intelligence communities who put their lives at risk for the greater good without regard for political affiliation," they said in a statement. "This was an American triumph, both heroic and non-partisan, and there is no basis to suggest that our film will represent this enormous victory otherwise."

Chastain had a massive breakout year in 2011, starring in six films. She was nominated for the Golden Globe for her work in "The Help," and featured in "The Tree of Life," "The Debt," "Take Shelter," "Coriolanus," "Salome" and "Texas Killing Fields." Her turn in "The Tree of Life" earned her an award from the New York Film Critics' Circle.

She'll also feature in "Wettest County," "Tar" and "Mama" in 2012. She's also slated to star in "Horizons" with Tom Cruise, though the Bin Laden movie may conflict with that film. On Thursday it was announced that she would be making her Broadway debut in "The Heiress."

Ramirez has plenty of military intelligence film experience already. He starred in 2007's "Bourne Ultimatum."

Bigelow's Bin Laden film is set to hit theaters on December 19th. For more, click over to The Hollywood Reporter.

Amber Portwood Still In Jail, Facing Eviction

It hasn't been an easy road for original "Teen Mom" castmember, Amber Portwood and things are about to get even bumpier. Portwood is currently serving time behind bars for violating her probation -- she was found with prescription medication without having a documented prescription -- and now the landlord of her Indiana home is trying to get her evicted.

"I brought a trailer in and my mom came over and cleaned everything up. I must have taken three trailer loads of stuff to the storage unit," Portwood's brother Shawn told E! News, explaining that although his sister moved the majority of her belongings from the home, she did not completely evacuate the premises.

E! also reports that the drive behind her landlord's attempt to have Portwood evicted stems from her pending felony charges for possession of a controlled substance and battery, which allegedly occurred at an Indiana restaurant. But it looks like Portwood isn't the only one with a dark past. According to Shawn, Amber did not finish her move because a friend of the reality star reportedly "dug up some dirt" on her landlord and the family is now intent to sue if the eviction is further pursued.

Portwood was in the midst of serving two years of probation after pleading guilty to two counts of felony domestic battery for assaulting the father of her child, Gary Shirley -- the incident was caught on MTV's cameras while Portwood was filming "Teen Mom." Portwood was initially sentenced to two years in jail but the verdict was later suspended and she was placed on two years probation.

'SNL' Star Talks Obama, Hipsters & His Hero

Fred Armisen is a busy man. The actor/writer/producer walked the red carpet on Thursday at New York's American Museum of Natural History, where he premiered the second season of his IFC comedy, "Portlandia." The venue was an appropriate spot to showcase the work of a marvel of modern comedy and time management.

Not only does Armisen, a self-proclaimed workaholic, write and star in the TV version of "Portlandia," the gentle, beloved hipster send-off that he co-created with Carrie Brownstein, he tours nationwide with a live stage show version of the cult hit. That'd be a full time job for some, but Armisen is also known to audiences worldwide as a leading cast member of "Saturday Night Live" and the foremost expert on impersonating President Obama. HuffPost caught up with Armisen, who spoke about his relationship with his audience, his dream of casting Woody Allen as a guest star on "Portlandia" and how "SNL" will handle the coming Presidential election.

There's so much internet love for the show. Do you follow that?

At the moment it's best not to, just to let it wash over and let pass. We've been busy but everything I've seen, I'm psyched about. It's a nice thing; I don't take it for granted. I love it, it's such an exciting time in general.

You're not lampooning people per se, but you are playing with the "hipster" identities of the same people who are your fans. How do you find the balance between goofing on people but still keeping them on your side?

It's like, because we are like that, it's very easy. We know we are like that, and as long as it's real, I think we're in good shape. As long as we're not making up some affectation that doesn't exist ... We like to keep it somewhat realistic. Dreamy.

Switching over to "SNL," how would your Obama approach a debate with Santorum?

With coolness. He's so steady. I love it.

It hasn't been an easy three years. Do you feel like your impression of Obama has changed at all, have you developed it?

Yeah, I've tried to do it more as myself. Because, as I get to know him, as I become familiar, just kind of warming up to that.

Are you surprised by what happened in Iowa?

Yeah, weren't you shocked? I thought it was Gingrich, and then was like, what? What happened? I'm not good at following politics.

A lot of people, and comedians in general, you're seeing more crossover to drama. Is that something you want to do?

That's awesome. [For me], it's tricky, because you don't want to do too much. It's whatever comes my way.

You have so many guest stars on the show this season. Beyond how you get them, how do you come up with their characters? Once you get big names, you have to go all out.

We think of a role to fill and we think of our friends, people we know. [Carrie] knows Eddie Vedder, Tim Robbins, and we say 'Hey, do you want to come do this?' And they say yeah.

A lot of times it's not comedians.

It's good that way, it's more interesting ... We had a role with Steve Jones from the Sex Pistols. He's in a scene with Tim Robbins. personally, it makes me really happy. On the outside, I'm like, hey cool, but on the inside I'm like, ahh!

Who gave you the most geek out fanboy moment this season?

"Battlestar Galactica." I flipped out. It was unreal.

More than Steve Jones?

Not more. Steve Jones I was in high school. I went nuts. I told him, the Sex Pistols were it.

Chris Colfer: I'll Be Back For 'Glee' Season 4

Chris Colfer's future on "Glee" was called into question this morning when Fox's President of Entertainment Kevin Reilly announced at TCA that while the much rumored spinoff was dead in the water, Lea Michele would be back for season four as creator Ryan Murphy had come up with a "cool" way to keep the graduating seniors around.

When asked later whether Chris was also part of that plan, Reilly reportedly "hedged" before saying that hadn't been decided yet.

But after chatting with Murphy after the panel, Chris Colfer revealed to TheInsider.com that he would 100 percent be back in the fall! In addition to getting his take on this inventive way to keep the graduates around, Chris teased some very intriguing 2012 events when I caught up with him at Fox's All Star TCA party tonight.

Jon Hamm is Dave's Assistant On 'Todd Margaret' Premiere

$

On the surface, "The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret" (Fri., 10:30 p.m. EST on IFC) has been about the hapless idiot and pathalogical liar, Todd Margaret (David Cross). He gets a tremendous opportunity handed to him to oversee the sales of a new energy drink in the UK, but he's woefully underqualified. As it progressed in the first season, we learned that his boss, Brent (Will Arnett) is as hapless and overwhelmed and idiotic as he is.

In fact, the only character who's been having fun throughout has been Todd's assistant, Dave (Blake Harrison). But there's been more than meets the eye with Dave, and in this season premiere we learned even more about him. Dave is important enough to escort Rihanna to the Grand Prix, important enough to cancel a Grand Prix, and rich enough to have a manservant, played by Jon Hamm.

So what is he doing working for Todd Margaret? It looks more and more like he orchestrated the entire situation, but was it for his own amusement or is there something more sinister going on? The premiere certainly doesn't give anything away, but Dave keeps Todd jumping and lying and generally creating more trouble for himself.

Follow all the lies on "The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret" every Friday night at 10:30 p.m. EST on IFC.

President Obama Hosted Alice In Wonderland Party With Johnny Depp At White House

$

President Obama threw a star-studded, "Alice In Wonderland"-themed Halloween party at the White House in 2009, New York Times correspondent Jodi Kantor writes in her new book, "The Obamas."

The party, parts of which were posted on the White House website and reported by Chicago Sun-Times' Lynn Sweet, saw the State Dining Room transformed into a Tim Burton-inspired fantasyland. It resembled the world of the filmmaker's impending Disney-distributed adaptation of the famous Lewis Carroll story, which was released in March 2010.

Kantor writes (via the NY Post) that Burton made up the room "in his signature creepy-comic style... He had turned the room into the Mad Hatter's tea party, with a long table set with antique-looking linens, enormous stuffed animals in chairs, and tiered serving plates with treats like bone-shaped meringue cookies... Fruit punch was served in blood vials at the bar. Burton's own Mad Hatter, the actor Johnny Depp, presided over the scene in full costume, standing up on a table to welcome everyone in character."

George Lucas, the book says, sent over the original Chewbacca costume for the occasion. Kantor also writes that the President and First Lady's daughters, Malia and Sasha, and their friends were entertained with a magic show in the East Room.

Local children and military families were also invited.

The White House has cautioned that the book is "an overdramatization of old news, is about a relationship between two people whom the author has not spoken to in years. The author last interviewed the Obamas in 2009 for a magazine piece, and did not interview them for this book."

Obama had a slew of active celebrity supporters during his campaign in 2008; Oprah, Bruce Springsteen, will.i.am, Matt Damon and Scarlett Johansson, amongst many others, worked to secure his election by making videos, campaign appearances and speaking out in public. When he took office, stars such as Will Smith, Anne Hathaway and Ron Howard attended his inauguration, while many others took part in parties that week in Washington to celebrate his new presidency. Beyonce sang at his Inaugural Ball.

In August, the President's 50th birthday party featured guests such as Chris Rock, Stevie Wonder, Tom Hanks and Jay-Z.

CORRECTION: An earlier version of this item said that the White House attempted to keep the appearance of Burton and Depp from the press. Their attendance was reported at the time by a Tennessee paper and a Depp fan website.

Gerard Butler Shares Near-Death Surfing Experience

No matter how tough someone might be, when Mother Nature decides to have her way with them, they've no choice but to roll with it and wait until it's over. Gerard Butler learned that first-hand once while surfing in an experience so traumatic he felt he was reliving it while telling the story on "The Graham Norton Show" (Sat., 10 p.m. EST on BBC America).

"I'm with three of the best surfers in the world, and they're just going, 'Paddle, Gerry! Paddle!'" Butler said of the moment before the first wave took him. They came out of nowhere and were topping out at nearly 30 feet high. Anyone who's been in the ocean can attest to random huge waves that seem to come from nowhere, and vanish just as quickly.

Before he could regain himself and find the surface, another wave took him and kept him tumbling underwater. "Sometimes you're only under for 10-15 seconds, but you feel like you're under for two minutes," he said. "But this I was under for almost a minute." That's a very long time under those circumstances.

Memories of the near-death surfing experience surfaced because of his forthcoming film "Of Men and Mavericks," based on the life of surfer Jary Moriarty. It was during filming that Butler suffered the accident, and even was taken to a hospital as a precaution, though everything turned out fine.

"The Graham Norton Show" airs every Saturday night at 10 p.m. EST on BBC America.

Tom Hanks' Web Series To Stream On Yahoo

NEW YORK -- Tom Hanks' long gestating Web series is coming to Yahoo.

"Electric City," an animated futuristic series Hanks has been developing for years, will premiere on Yahoo this spring. The series includes 20 episodes, each three- or four-minutes long.

Yahoo, along with Hanks and production partners Playtone and Reliance Entertainment, are set to formally announce plans for the series Tuesday at the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

For Hanks, the release of "Electric City" caps the actor's efforts to find the right avenue for the project. He first tried to make the series using puppets. He earlier announced it would be released in early 2011.

The series is set in a seemingly peaceful city situated in a post-apocalyptic world. Many of its themes are socially conscious topics relevant to today, including energy consumption.

"It was always our intent to have this project live and breathe online, and we felt Yahoo would be the perfect home," said Gary Goetzman, co-founder of Playtone, Hanks' production company.

For Yahoo, "Electric City" is its first entry into scripted original programming. Yahoo has been beefing up its online video with reality series and wrap-up news shows, many of which rank among the most-viewed series online.

"Electric City" will be distributed online and through tablet devices with the usual interactivity and social media connections, but also a few new features. Most notably, it will be available in several languages, including Spanish and French. Along with producing, Hanks will voice a character.

"On the surface, the Electric City is utopia and under the surface, Electric City is secrets and heavy-handed state control," says Erin McPherson, vice president and head of original programming at Yahoo. "What we found really compelling is that this is perfect for a highly digital audience, a lean-forward audience who likes to utilize the medium of the Internet."

In October, Yahoo launched a slate of programming targeted at women. It's planning another batch of programming for February that will focus on comedy, including partnerships with Bill Maher and the Funny or Die website.

"Electric City" is likely to presage further scripted ventures for Yahoo.

"There are a number of other opportunities we're looking at, and I think we're uniquely poised to build these sort of tent-pole event programs," says McPherson. "I would expect that you'll see us doing more of it."
