Returning To 'X-Men'?

Shawn Ashmore is poised to make a splash on TV in Fox's "The Following" opposite Kevin Bacon, but that hasn't stopped the actor from reminiscing about his life as part of the "X-Men."

At the premiere of "The Following," Fox's new thriller about a serial killer who develops a cult of followers, Ashmore told The Huffington Post he'd return to the mutant movie franchise if asked to reprise the role of Bobby Drake, better known as Iceman, in "X-Men: Days of Future Past." However, he hasn't heard whether the Iceman will cometh.

"Honestly, at this point I have no idea," Ashmore said. "What's exciting is Bryan Singer's back, which is amazing. He was amazing to work with. I would love to come back and play Bobby again. I played the part three times, I got to grow up playing that part, which is incredible. It's so rare. If it happens, i would love to play that part. The moving is happening, so I have to wait and see how it all comes together."

"X-Men: Days of Future Past" marks Singer's return to the "X-Men" franchise as director. Singer directed "X-Men" and "X2: X-Men United" and served as a producer on "X-Men: First Class." So far for "Days of Future Past," Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen are signed on to reprise their roles of Wolverine, Professor X and Magneto, respectively.

An admitted "X-Men" comic book fan, Ashmore said he saw Matthew Vaughn's "X-Men: First Class" and enjoyed it.

"I loved 'First Class,'" he said. "I thought Matthew Vaughn did a great job. I thought Kevin Bacon did a great job. We've had some 'X-Men' conversations."

Yup, Iceman and Sebastian Shaw compared "X-Men" notes.

"They shot some of 'First Class' down in Atlanta, which is where we shot the pilot, so we just kind of talked about that and the experience of making it," Ashmore said. "They're huge films. It's such an undertaking, so it's amazing to get stories from the movies you're not on. It's all very similar: the scheduling and the craziness and the special effects and 'Oh my god, that scene, it's 10 seconds in the movie, but it took five weeks to shoot.' Stuff like that."

"The Following" premieres Monday, Jan. 21 at 9 p.m. EST on Fox.

When Hollywood Meets D.C.

This week marks the second inauguration of President Barack Obama. With the Academy Awards just a month away, there is a long history of Hollywood maintaining a strong relationship with D.C. heavyweights.

Steven Spielberg's "Lincoln" highlighted the intersection of Hollywood and D.C. particularly well this year. The film about former president Abraham Lincoln led the Golden Globes nominations with seven awards, and was introduced at the ceremony by 42nd President Bill Clinton. The film was even screened at the White House, providing a photo of Daniel-Day Lewis reading the Gettysburg Address. Now, "Lincoln" is up for a leading 12 awards at the 85th Annual Academy Awards, to be held on Feb. 24.

PHOTO: David Beckham's Latest H&M Ad Proves There's A God

If we had one complaint about David Beckham's H&M underwear ads -- that's a very big "if" -- it'd be that the soccer hunk is always depicted in black and white.

But not anymore! Becks' new spring/summer 2013 campaign, which Design Scene brought to us, has changed all that. And may we say: LET THERE BE LIGHT.

Beckham's bodywear line for the retailer has already granted us a number of shirtless ads (and one very nice Super Bowl commercial). But the latest season of Becks' underwear showed even more promise: in August, we learned there'd be a Guy Ritchie-directed video to go along with it, and we nabbed a few sneak peeks of him frolicking in his underwear.

In the new ad, the athlete sports a pair of $14.96 boxer briefs that are, you know, in for spring and all that. (There's nine styles altogether, from the briefs to long johns.)

The spring/summer 2013 line lands at H&M on Feb. 2, and the video drops on Feb. 6, but for now, sate your Becks appetite with the first look at the official ad.

Yes, it's IN COLOR.

Kardashians Latest Celebrities To Fall Victim To 'Swatted' Hoax

The Kardashians are the latest celebrities to be "swatted."

Police swarmed Bruce and Kris Jenner's Calabasas, Calif., home on Friday afternoon after receiving a prank call about a shooting at the Kardashian mansion, CBS Los Angeles reported. The police had received a 911 call from an unidentified woman who gave them the address and said the suspects were still inside.

“It came out as a very serious call of possibly someone shot inside the home out here in the Hidden Hills area,” reported CBS2’s Stu Mundel. “The Malibu sheriff’s’ took this very very seriously as they do any call of that type of caliber and they came out here in force."

Police arrived in force to the Kardashian's Hidden Hills house -- with Bruce and Kris, along with their daughters, Kylie and Kendall, inside, according to TMZ. Several helicopters hovered over the home and at least 15 police with machine guns locked down the street.

The cops ordered Bruce, Kris, Kylie and Kendall out of the house while they searched, according to TMZ. The 911 caller supposedly said she was hiding in a closet.

When Kim found out that her family had been the victim of a swatting hoax, she took to Twitter to criticize the pranksters.

The Kardashians are the latest celebrities to be swatted, described by the Los Angeles Times as: "a fast-growing phenomenon masterminded by anonymous mischief-makers who alert police to a bogus crime situation, prompting a tactical response — sometimes by SWAT officers — that involves a high-risk search for phantom assailants."

Some worry that the prank could turn deadly. "Swatting is a very real problem for those in the public eye," Blair Berk, a criminal lawyer who has represented the likes of Mel Gibson, Kanye West and Lindsay Lohan, told the L.A. Times. "It is only a matter of time before someone dies because of this stupidity."

Other celebrities to be swatted include Tom Cruise, Justin Bieber, Simon Cowell, Charlie Sheen, Miley Cyrus and Ashton Kutcher.

'Glee' Star Sued For Sexual Battery

Actor Mark Salling has been sued by an ex-girlfriend who claims that the "Glee" star committed sexual battery by forcing her to have sex without a condom.

In her lawsuit, Roxanne Gorzela claims she began dating the 30-year-old in September 2010, according to TMZ, and in March 2011 she consented to have sex with him, but only with a condom. Salling reportedly ignored her demand and proceeded to "insert his penis into [her] vagina without a condom." Gorzela claims she protested and the actor stopped, but then re-engaged for a second time without a condom.

Gorzela proceeded to call and text Salling to ask if he had been tested for STDs, according to E! News. He failed to return her messages, so she went to his house to confront him. When she demanded he prove he had no STDs, he reportedly grabbed her and pushed her to the ground, causing her to hit her head. She filed a police report on March 25, the day of the alleged attack.

The young woman filed the sexual battery lawsuit against Salling on Friday afternoon in Los Angeles court, according to E! News. In addition to sexual battery, the "Glee" star is accused of intentional infliction of emotional distress and negligence. The suit calls the actor's behavior "willful, malicious and despicable," adding that it caused Gorzela "severe and substantial mental and emotional distress, humiliation, fear, apprehension, anxiety and anguish."

The actor's publicist has denied the allegations against her client. "There is no truth to this. It's the textbook case of a disgruntled girl looking to cash in on a TV star's success," she told TMZ in a statement. "We turn the rest over to Mark's attorneys and have no further comment."

Salling has played "Puck," the bonehead jock chorus singer, since Season 1 of the hit Fox series. In 2011, he was nominated for the Teen Choice Award for Choice TV: Scene Stealer Male.

The Surprise That Brought Steve Harvey To Tears

Comedian Steve Harvey is all about getting a laugh, whether as one of the cracking-wise "Kings of Comedy" or as the newest host of long-running game show "Family Feud."

But Harvey showed a more emotional side on his daytime television show this week, thanks to an unexpected call. Harvey, who turned 56 on January 17, took a call via satellite during the show's taping as part of his birthday special. What transpired next sent both Harvey and his audience to tears.

A man appears and wishes him a happy birthday, causing Harvey to whisper "Aw, man," before pacing the stage. "This is Rich Liss from Orlando, Florida," the man said. "Do you still love me, baby?"

Harvey bends over, choking back sobs for a few moments. "Hey, man," he said, still trying to pull himself together. "I love you."

It turns out Liss and his wife, Becky, were early supporters of Harvey, first when he was a 26-year-old running a fledgling carpet cleaning business, and later when he was trying to break into comedy.

"I was struggling," Harvey said, wiping tears away. "I didn't have nothing. And these people... took me in."

Alicia Keys Is Everywhere

PARK CITY, Utah — It's a busy week for Alicia Keys.

The singer-songwriter is set to perform at three events during Barack Obama's presidential inauguration on Monday. She'll sing the National Anthem at the Super Bowl on Feb. 3. And meanwhile, she popped over to Park City, Utah, to debut her first film as executive producer and composer.

The 32-year-old entertainer is attending her first Sundance Film Festival to support "The Inevitable Defeat of Mister and Pete," which premiered Friday. Directed by George Tillman, Jr., the film tells the story of two young boys who survive the streets of Brooklyn on their own.

"It's great because I love being part of bringing stories that you wouldn't often hear to the world," she said. "The fact that it was in my hometown – New York – that felt really good. The most important thing for me is that it looked and was so authentic."

This was Keys' first experience creating a film score, and she found the process enlightening.

"I think it really expanded me because it's a beautiful collaborative process," she said. "Being able to collaborate with (director) George (Tillman, Jr.), and he has such a cool feeling about music and is specific about how it related to each scene, and that was really interesting. There were some pieces that came really naturally to me and others that I had to kind of think more of how does that feel, what should that feel like?"

While she's thrilled to experience her first Sundance festival, Keys confessed she's constantly thinking about her Super Bowl performance.

"I'm really excited about it, I can't even lie," she said with a smile. "I have to rehearse it totally, as if it's a brand new song, because it is actually a brand new song in the style that I'll deliver it. I'm actually rehearsing it like a maniac."

Porn Industry Has Trouble Getting Excited About Its Business Prospects

$
0
0

LAS VEGAS -- Walking around the Adult Entertainment Expo (AEE) in Las Vegas, you'd never know the porn industry was at half-mast, sales-wise.

There are floor-to-ceiling billboards of scantily clad sex actresses and HD TV screens showing every conceivable type of fornication (and a few unconceivable ones as well). Fans can take pictures with stars like Lisa Ann (the porn version of Sarah Palin), Julia Ann (no relation) and Alexis Texas (formerly Alexis Texass). If polite enough, the fanboy or frangirl might even get to touch a breast.

If the AEE was one's only exposure to the industry, the crowded convention hall might seem proof that porn is truly recession-proof. But insiders claim the business has gone limp -- metaphorically speaking -- because more people are watching porn for free over the Internet instead of purchasing it.

The end result means fewer gigs for hard-working porn performers like Dave Cummings, a 72-year-old porn actor who has also produced three series: "Dirty Dave's Sugar Daddy," "Sex Fun" and "Kneepad Nymphos."

"The piracy has killed the industry," Cummings told HuffPost. "I'd say 80 percent of the companies that were around five years ago either don't exist or are hanging by a thread. The day a new video comes out, within 24 hours, someone has set up a tripod in front of their TV to copy it and then uploaded it illegally."

Cummings is staying home in San Diego this year, and feels the piracy has forced him into a premature retirement. "I'm not able to cover production costs, so why do it?" he said. "Companies that are still in business are either paying less in salary or having McDonalds do the catering instead of craft services."

PORN STAR GALLERY (Story continues below):

Nate Glass, who runs TakeDownPiracy, an organization battling online porn copyright infringement, estimates DVD sales have dropped by 50 percent since 2007.

"A mid-level company that might have earned $350,000 a month in DVD sales before that was earning maybe $150,000 to $200,000 when the recession hit," Glass said. "That may have partly been due to the recession, but there hasn't been a bounceback like in other industries."

It's hard to track how much money the porn industry has lost, because it's nearly impossible to figure how much it typically earns. Theo Sapoutzis, the CEO and Chairman of Adult Video News (AVN), a trade journal that covers the porn industry and organizes the AEE, estimates that the pornography business made $10 billion in 2012, but admits getting exact figures is close to impossible since many porn companies are privately owned and tend to "inflate" their figures.

Sapoutzis "guesstimates" the industry made as much as $13 to $15 billion during its peak in the mid-2000s, before the recession. He accepts Cummings' suggestion that 80 percent of porn companies are now defunct or struggling, but Sapoutzis sees that as a sign that the porn business is maturing, not dying.

"There are more performers than ever before, but they're working as cam girls at home interacting with people, rather than in a studio," he said. "From a company standpoint, there's bigger competition. It's more difficult to enter."

Darren Roberts, who was the CEO of AVN between 1996 and 2010, said the last few years have been rough on sales of filmed fornication, but it's hard to know how much the companies are struggling.

"The companies are tightly held, so you have to take what they say with a grain of salt," he told HuffPost. "Otherwise, you can check sales at the retail level, the distributors or even the printer to see how many box covers were printed. But, even then, everyone refutes the figures anyway."

"The only thing for sure is video sales," said Roberts, who is also the author of The Unsexpected Story, a new book about the porn industry. "Sometimes, you can check which films did well on hotel cable systems because those are publicly traded companies."

No one can or will say how much money the porn industry has lost, but porn insiders won't deny that fewer films are being made, forcing actresses like Tanya Tate -- a 33-year-old who specializes in playing cougar roles -- to adapt.

"The budgets have been slashed," she told HuffPost. "Performers often have to do their own makeup."

Tate's solution has been to diversify. She started a PR agency, Star Factory PR, that represents herself and other adult industry actresses, and she also directs films.

Tate also has tried to broaden her base by capitalizing on her interest in cosplay, and dressing up in sexy superhero outfits. "I don't say I'm a porn star," she said. "I just say, 'I'm Tanya Tate and I have a cosplay site.' It's SFW [safe for work], but if they do further research on Facebook or Twitter, people will make the connection."

Other adult stars and companies are trying to make up for lost revenue by breaking into new products, according to Sherri Shaulis, the senior editor of Pleasure Products for AVN. "Video companies are breaking into novelties like sex toys or lingerie," Shaulis said. "The idea is that you can't download the novelty."

If times are as tough as porn industry insiders say, it's possible they could get worse with the passage of Measure B, a controversial condom-only porn measure that Los Angeles voters approved in November. The law requires adult film producers in the city to obtain a health permit before filming and performers to use condoms while engaged in sex. It also calls for health officials to be present on working sets and makes violators subject to fines and criminal charges.

But that's only, Akira says, if authorities can figure out how to implement it. "No one knows what's going to happen or how it will be enforced," she said. "Porn was illegal to shoot not that long ago and it still happened."

Roberts said despite the economic hardships the business has apparently faced in recent years, he thinks things are bouncing back. "I am seeing the light at the end of the tunnel," he said. "DVD sales are coming back from two years ago. It was doom and gloom for a while, but people who put out good high quality product survived."

Time For A 'Long, Long Break'

In the midst of awards season, one Golden Globe nominee says that it is time for a break.

"I am a bit drained," Leonardo DiCaprio told German publication Bild. "I'm now going to take a long, long break. I've done three films in two years and I'm just worn out."

But rather than spending his break relaxing, DiCaprio says that he will take the time to focus on the environment. "I would like to improve the world a bit," he said. "I will fly around the world doing good for the environment."

While he was beat out by his co-star Christoph Waltz, DiCaprio was recently nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Quentin Tarantino's "Django Unchained."

DiCaprio's latest, "The Great Gatsby" hits theaters on May 10.

Will Lady Gaga Perform At The Inaugural Ball?

WASHINGTON — Watch out Beyonce and Katy Perry. There's another diva set to perform during the inauguration festivities – Lady Gaga.

A person familiar with the inauguration tells The Associated Press that the pop star will perform at Tuesday's ball for White House staffers. The source spoke on condition of anonymity because that person wasn't authorized to publicly reveal the information.

The staff ball is typically a private affair. During the last inauguration festivities, Jay-Z reportedly performed for that event.

According to one attendee, Jay-Z rapped a riff on one of his hit songs, "99 Problems but George Bush Ain't One," to the delight of the throngs of young staffers who worked to elect Obama in 2008.

Octomom Back On The Stripper Pole

Looks like the second time's a charm for Octomom.

Just weeks after signing up for welfare again, and six months after her first striptease, Nadya Suleman will be stripping for the second time at a Florida nightclub, according to TMZ.

The mother of 14 signed a whopping $20,000 deal with West Palm Beach's T's Lounge to perform four shows next month, from Feb. 14 to Feb. 16, reports TMZ. There will be no lap dances, but Suleman will go topless, dance and bartend. She agreed to do the stripping stint so long as the club drops its lawsuit against her.

In July, the Florida nightclub sued Suleman for backing out of a previously agreed-to stripping gig, the Associated Press previously reported.

Octomom refused to get naked at the club again after a bartender from the club called her "crazy" in an interview. The club claimed she cost them thousands in advertising dollars by breaking that agreement.

PHOTOS: OCTO-PORN (Story Continues Below)

On Jan. 7, RumorFix reported that Octomom didn't have plans to strip again. “She is not planning on dancing, but if she wanted to, she can," the rep said of the 38-year-old single mother.

Sulemen's financial situation might've forced her hand.

Suleman told HuffPost that she went on welfare for the second time because she is running out of cash after going to rehab in November for a prescription drug problem. “Going through recovery was an important step for me to take,” she said. “Although it set me back financially a little bit, it was worth it.”

Back in July, Suleman stripped for the first time for just $5,000 at West Park's Playhouse Gentleman's Club. A fellow stripper gave the Octomom performance a less-than-stellar review,, saying that "she's really stiff" and "can't dance."

Although Suleman was apparently able to score more for her second stripping gig than she did for her first, the sum is paltry compared to the $500,000 she made off Vivid Entertainment for her porno, "Octomom Home Alone."

Khloe Kardashian: 'I'm Happy With Myself If I'm A Little Heavier'

Khloe Kardashian is sick and tired of being considered the "bigger" Kardashian. The "X Factor" co-host loves her body and admits she's confident because of her curves.

"A few years ago I lost 30 pounds, and people still wanted to criticize. And honestly, I’m happy with myself if I’m a little heavier," Khloe tells Glamour magazine. "I realized: 'Why am I trying to conform to someone else’s idea of beauty?' I think I’m beautiful either way."

Khloe also confesses that she tries not to compare herself to her sisters Kim and Kourtney, especially when it comes to beauty.

"I’m a little more silly than they are," she explains of her distinct style. "I like to do designs on the side of my face, or cut out foil stickers from the crafts store and put them on my forehead."

As for all the rumors surrounding her personal life, Khloe released a statement denouncing the claims that she and Lamar Odom are divorcing or that she is not really a Kardashian on her blog Jan. 16.

It is disgusting that Life & Style and InTouch magazines continue to print these false stories about my life: the status of my marriage, false reports about a miscarriage, the horrible lie that my dad is not my biological father, jealousy over my sisters’ lives, etc. It is a complete waste of time to address these reports every time they print these ridiculous and absurd tabloid stories, but not only are these stories untrue, they’re also unfair to the people who buy the magazines expecting to read accurate reports.

She went on to defend her marriage and the fact that she hasn't gotten pregnant yet.

"Anyone who pays attention to these things can easily see the incredible bond that everyone in my family shares," Khloe wrote. "I’m happily married to a wonderful man and fall in love with him more and more each day, and we’ll have a baby when God wants us to and when the time is right. These blatant lies are distasteful and shameless."
