Jenna Garecht: 10 Reasons I Love One Direction

$
0
0

One Direction may be considered a typical "boy band," but I believe they are different from anything the music industry has ever seen before. Here are ten reasons why they are unique.

1. They make girls all around the world feel beautiful and wanted. In their #1 hit single, "What Makes You Beautiful," the lyrics they sing can make any girl feel beautiful. For three minutes and twenty-seven seconds anyone -- old, young, tall, short, skinny, heavy, British or American -- can feel absolutely gorgeous.

2. They sound just as good in concert as they do on the album. This proves that the boys have true talent. It also shows that they have a true dedication to music, because they are always trying to find ways to improve their songs and voices.

3. Their rise to stardom is a very inspiring story that touches the hearts of millions. Anyone who has ever dreamed of making it big is able to relate to the boys. Harry, Liam, Louis, Niall, and Zayn started off with big hopes and dreams. When separately auditioning for the British "X Factor," they had no idea that within two years they would be one of the biggest bands in the world. Their story teaches anyone out there who has big dreams to never give up, work hard, and reach for the stars!

4. They are European!! Zayn, Louis, Harry and Liam being from England and Niall being from Ireland is a huge turn on for a lot of American girls. Fans love to hear them talk and they also love when they are able to hear their accents in the songs.

5. They make everyone around them smile. One Direction has an effect on everyone who listens to them. There music makes everyone smile, laugh, giggle, chuckle, smirk, blush, and flat out fall in love with them. Also they have very bubbly and outgoing personalities. It's hard not to like them!

6. They are very fashionable! One Direction has a fabulous fashion sense. Each boy has his own distinct style, but all the styles work and compliment each other. For example, Louis is known for wearing striped shirts, colored jeans, and suspenders, and Niall is known for wearing a red polo and khakis. Now, even girls are starting to wear the same clothes as them! Fans will wear a striped tank top and bright colored skinny jeans. As you can see, anyone can dress like One Direction!

7. They are the kings of social media. They have millions of followers on Instagram and even more on Facebook and Twitter. They thank social media for a lot of their stardom; without Facebook and Twitter a lot of fans would have never known about them (especially American fans).

8. They are all best friends! Liam, Louis, Niall, Harry and Zayn are all best buds. In a recent interview at the Today Show in New York, the boys were asked if they ever got sick of each other. Their reply was that they couldn't remember the last time they had an argument and that they always get along because they were a band of brothers. They always make each other laugh and that is another reason people love them. They are always having fun and they love what they do.

9. They care for and love their fans. One Direction is always trying to find ways to go out and meet their fans because they know they wouldn't be any where without them. The boys also always dedicate their awards to their fans. Recently at the EMAs (Europe Music Awards) One Direction won "The Best Fans" award. Their fans are very dedicated to them, and One Direction appreciates all of them.

10. They are normal teenagers at heart. Although most teenagers haven't traveled the world on an international tour, won three VMA's, or have had millions of girls from all over the world come out just to see them perform, they are truly just five normal teenagers that have been given an amazing opportunity. They are just like all of their fans: they can't dance, they have bad hair days, they stuff their faces with McDonald's, they sing in the shower (I mean they are probably better than most of us, but they still do it), they laugh, they cry and most importantly, they have dreams like every single one of us!

Coldplay To Take Three Years Off

Bad news for Coldplay fans: The band announced its taking a massive break at a gig in Brisbane, Australia on Wednesday.

Frontman Chris Martin told concert attendees that the group wanted to make the performance their best ever. "This is the last big show for three years or so," Martin said. "I don't want to stop."

That's not actually true -- the group has a number of arena gigs lined up before their New Year's Eve show with Jay-Z. But news that the band doesn't want to perform after those dates is sure to disappoint the band's international fan base.

It seems, however, that the band did go out with the bang they intended. From Billboard:

In the afterglow of this show, an online poll conducted by the local Courier Mail newspaper found almost 1,000 music fans rated this show as the city's best ever stadium performance. Bettering shows by AC/DC, Robbie Williams, Michael Jackson, Bruce Springsteen and other luminaries.

Coldplay has released five studio albums over the past twelve years. Martin is married to Gwyneth Paltrow. The couple have two children.

Royal rumors have to be our favorite kind of gossip. Unlike celebrities, these public figures rarely (if ever) speak out unofficially, so many of these juicy murmurings go classily unacknowledged -- and unresolved.

Take, for example, the matter of who is Prince Harry's real father (people have doubts!) or whether or not Kate Middleton is pregnant. Have you ever seen a tweet by the royal in question confirming or denying any of these allegations à la Kim Kardashian? Didn't think so.

Some of this back-fence talk can be easily dismissed, while other topics of conversation remain scandalously unsettled. We'll leave the guessing game to you.

Without further adieu, we present: the juiciest royal rumors we've ever heard. Tell us any we've missed in the comments section.

Rihanna Spends Thanksgiving With Chris Brown

Rihanna and Chris Brown continue to bewilder us with the news that the former (and rumored current) couple spent Thanksgiving together in Berlin, Germany.

On Wednesday, Rihanna tweeted, "All alone in my big ole jet!!! See u soon lover,” along with a picture of herself on the plane. On Thursday she arrived in Berlin, which just happened to be the next stop on Brown's tour.

The singer wished her Twitter followers a happy Thanksgiving and proceeded to let everyone in her plans for the day, tweeting, “#Berlin #CarpeDiem.”

Of course, it's important to seize the day in any city, but Carpe Diem is the name of Brown's current world tour, so it's not like Rihanna was trying to hide her Turkey Day plans.

According to Us Weekly, the pair was later spotted together at Berlin's Adagio nightclub after Brown's show.

News the two spent the holiday together follows reports that Brown's Dec. 26 concert in Guyana has been cancelled because of protests from local women's rights groups over his 2009 brutal assault on Rihanna.

According to the Associated Press, concert promoter Hits & Jams Entertainment claimed that Brown backed out citing discomfort with the protests. A rep for Brown, however, has denied the reports, telling Gossip Cop the promoter was “being untruthful” about Brown’s commitment and that his participation in the show had not been finalized.

Sometimes, we like to imagine that our favorite TV families spend the holidays together in real life. And it turns out that Bob Saget and John Stamos -- a.k.a. "Full House" brothers-in-law Danny Tanner and Uncle Jesse -- actually did hang out this Thanksgiving.

"happy thanksgiving - stay blessed," Stamos tweeted, along with a photo of himself and Saget.

No word on what the pair talked about, but we can only hope Tom Hanks' "Full House"-inspired slam poetry made its way into the conversation.

Stamos recently discussed the beloved '90s sitcom, which recently marked its 25th anniversary, with People. "I haven't watched a full episode in, I'm sure, 20 to 25 years," he told the magazine. "If I see it on, I will flip. I mean, if [nothing other than] my hair being so gosh darn ridiculous. Didn't anybody tell me that was going to haunt me years later?"

Party like it's 2001! Cher's new single, "Woman's World," has made its way online.

You may recall the singer lambasting a Chicago radio station in October, when an unfinished cut of the song was leaked.

Despite not putting out new music, Cher has kept her public happy by taking on all sorts of celebriteis on Twitter. But this Thanksgiving, she kept it pretty PG and promised a disc full of Great Songs:

The club track is about the same tempo as every other pop-dance song on the market, so prepare to hear Cher at your local discotheque. Let us know what you think in the comments.

It was just yesterday that Halle Berry's ex-boyfriend Gabriel Aubry was arrested after getting into a fight with Berry's fiance, Olivier Martinez.

But at 7:30 a.m. the morning after the turbulent Turkey Day, Martinez, who suffered cuts on his hand, was seen picking up some presumably much-needed spirits at Gil Turner's liquor store in Los Angeles.

According to TMZ, Berry and Martinez had Thanksgiving dinner at a friend's house Thursday, but rushed home promptly after.

WATCH: The 'Glee' Gang Embrace Their Inner Superheroes

$

Though this week's "Glee" aired on Thanksgiving, the theme of the evening was superheroes -- a perfect excuse for tights, capes and some truly dynamic duets.

The episode saw Blaine struggling with his not-so-secret identity, torn between staying at McKinley and being surrounded by reminders of losing Kurt, or embracing the Dark Side and returning to Dalton to lead the Warblers to another victory. Though the dastardly Warblers stole the New Directions' Nationals trophy to get Blaine back on campus and tempted by the blazer of ultimate power, our hairgelled hero soon came to his senses and realized that McKinley was where he belonged -- mostly thanks to a pep talk from his trusty sidekick Sam. A David Bowie duet of "Heroes" ensued, and Blaine was well on the way to forgiving himself for cheating on Kurt. Turns out he had a one night stand with a random guy he met on Facebook while feeling insecure about whether he and Kurt were meant to be, and he's been guilt-tripping ever since. Young love ...

Ryder and Jake spent most of the hour locked in a bitter battle for Marley's affections, singing an aggressive version of The Clique's "Superman" (which ended in a sucker punch) before Finn helped them recognize their own personal kryptonite and admit their weaknesses. Turned out that Jake has always felt like an outsider because he's biracial and Jewish, while Ryder has struggled with reading because of his previously undiagnosed dyslexia. While Marley will probably continue to be a bone of contention between them, the two definitely ended the episode on better terms.

Frenemies Marley and Kitty had less of a genuine reconciliation, although they did perform a rousing rendition of "Holding Out For a Hero" and bonded over bulimia (yes, really). While Kitty apparently still couldn't resist unsheathing her claws for some passive-aggressive scratching, she did help Marley to change her superhero pseudonym from "Wall Flower" to "Woman Fierce." And Marley showed some surprising (if a little unsympathetic) decisiveness in her love triangle dilemma: After Ryder had to cancel their date to prepare for a meeting with a dyslexia specialist, the greedy girl made plans with Jake instead.

Finn even seemed to find his groove as Substitute Schue, doling out advice right and left. Could his advisory position become permanent? The episode ended with an uplifting performance of "Some Nights" by fun., which highlighted some of the new bonds that had been formed in the episode -- although Kitty still eyerolled her way through the number. Even Tina got a line!

"Glee" airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET on Fox.

What did you think of "Dynamic Duets"? Do you want to see Marley with Ryder or Jake? Weigh in below!

Harper Gives Bieber Diamond Jubilee Medal

It appears that Stephen Harper is a Belieber.

The Prime Minister presented Canadian pop superstar Justin Bieber with a Diamond Jubilee Medal today, as announced on the PM's Twitter.

To qualify for a medal, a nominee must have "made a significant contribution to a particular province, territory, region or community within Canada, or an achievement abroad that brings credit to Canada."

While the Statford, Ont. native has certainly made a splash in the world of pop music and screaming preteens, we're fairly certain his wardrobe choices didn't factor into his nomination.

The 18-year-old crooner wore overalls (one strap fashionably undone), a white T-shirt and a baseball cap to collect his prize. His outfit was perhaps even more controversial the award, if the deluge of tweets on the matter is to be believed.

Stories continues below slideshow

Bieber himself was clearly more impressed with his duds.

Harper gave the Biebs his medal at Ottawa's Scotia Bank Place ahead of a concert Friday night. Harper's son Ben is attending the concert with friends, PMO spokesperson Erica Meekes told the Canadian Press.

Of the 60,000 medals to be handed out this year in honour of the Queen's 60 years on the throne, there have already been some controversial picks. Mary Wagner, a notorious anti-abortion activist currently jailed for harassing women, was given a medal by Saskatchewan Conservative backbencher Maurice Vellacott. The move prompted interim Liberal leader Bob Rae to say that Vellacot had "crossed the line" and was encouraging others to follow in Wagner's criminal footsteps.

'Dallas' TV Star Dies At 81

Nov 23 (Reuters) - Larry Hagman, who created one of American television's most supreme villains in the conniving, amoral oilman J.R. Ewing of "Dallas," died on Friday, the Dallas Morning News reported. He was 81.
Hagman died at a Dallas hospital of complications from his battle with cancer, the newspaper said, quoting a statement from his family. He had suffered from cancer and cirrhosis of the liver in the 1990s after decades of drinking.
Hagman's mother was stage and movie star Mary Martin and he became a star himself in 1965 on "I Dream of Jeannie," a popular television sitcom in which he played Major Anthony Nelson, an astronaut who discovers a beautiful genie in a bottle.
"Dallas," which made its premiere on the CBS network in 1978, made Hagman a superstar. The show quickly became one of the network's top-rated programs, built an international following and inspired a spin-off, imitators and a revival in 2012. The Best Of Larry Hagman

The late Larry Hagman was best known for his role on "Dallas" -- and for wearing TV's most legendary cowboy hat -- but Hagman was all over the small screen long before the world wondered, "Who shot J.R.?"

Hagman, who died Friday after suffering from cancer, was in the middle of shooting the second season of the "Dallas" reboot on TNT when he passed away.

His cancer almost set back the 2012 incarnation, but Hagman said he wouldn't let that happen. Before its premiere, Hagman told The Huffington Post he was thrilled to be back as the ruthless J.R. Ewing. "Playing a villain is like a license to steal."

In honor of Hagman and his 55-year TV career, take a look through the slideshow below to see him as the master on "I Dream Of Jeannie," to watch him play Jessica Walter's (a.k.a. Lucille Bluth) on-air husband and to find out which "Real Housewife" once played his stepdaughter.

Recognize This Star?

Angelina Jolie can never remain out of the tabloids for very long. If she's not in the headlines for wearing a vial of blood around her neck, she is there for dating one of Hollywood's more eligible bachelors, Brad Pitt. If she doesn't make the cover of a magazine for her slew of Golden Globes, it's for her humanitarian work (or, quite possibly, adopting another child). Ever since Angelina burst onto the scene in her teens, we've had a hard time tearing our eyes away. Covered in tattoos, never scared to wear head-to-toe black, Angie consistently delivers raw sex appeal that cannot be taught.

In this early '90s photograph we see a 16-year-old Angie giving it to the camera (it appears as though she was really just born this way). Her famous full lips are as gorgeous as ever (here's hoping our lip venom can have a similar effect). Her hair is doing the whole I-just-rolled-out-of-bed-looking-this-fabulous thing, while her burgundy dress is perfection against her dewy skin. Can someone please show us a photo of where this woman doesn't look like a cover girl?

Barbara Eden Mourns The Loss Of Larry Hagman

It's a sad day in Hollywood.

TV icon Larry Hagman, who is best known for playing villain J.R. Ewing on "Dallas," died at the age of 81 on Friday, Nov. 23, following complications from his battle with throat cancer.

And now, his "I Dream of Jeannie" co-star Barbara Eden, 78, is mourning the death of her good friend and colleague.

Eden posted a message of her Facebook page, honoring Hagman's incredible career:

As I received the news this evening and as you read this I still cannot completely express the shock and impact from the news that Larry Hagman has passed. I can still remember, that first day on Zuma Beach with him, in the frigid cold. From that day for five more years, Larry was the center of so many fun, wild, shocking… and in retrospect, memorable moments that will remain in my heart forever.

He was such a key element in my life for so long and even, years after I Dream of Jeannie; our paths crossed many times. Throughout various productions I had the pleasure of watching the Texas Tornado that was Larry Hagman. Amidst a whirlwind of big laughs, big smiles and unrestrained personality Larry was always, simply Larry. You couldn't fault him for it, it was just who he was. I am so thankful that this past year I was able to spend time with him and experience yet again ‘Larry’ in all his Big Texas bravado.

I, like many others believed he had beat Cancer and yet we are reminded that life is never guaranteed. My deepest condolences go out to his wife Maj, his son and daughter and his grandchildren, as well as his friends in this time of his passing. I can honestly say that we've lost not just a great actor, not just a television icon, but an element of pure Americana.

Goodbye Larry, there was no one like you before and there will never be anyone like you again.
-Barbara

Other friends and fellow actors quickly joined Eden in tweeting memories of Hagman.
