PHOTO: Moms Of Justin Bieber & Miley Cyrus Hang Out

Justin Bieber's mother, Pattie Mallette, adored his girlfriend of two years, Selena Gomez. "She's just a sweetheart. She's kind and generous and loving," Mallette told the AP in September. Bieber's mom must've been disappointed to hear of her son's split from the 20-year-old star last week.

So when Mallette had breakfast with Tish Cyrus -- that would be Miley Cyrus' mom, of course -- Thursday in Calabasas, Calif., perhaps she was seeking advice. Miley went through her own bad breakup from Nick Jonas before setting down with current fiance Liam Hemsworth. In fact, the 19-year-old "Party in the U.S.A" singer once told Seventeen that when their relationship ended in late 2007, "At first I bawled for a month straight. I was so sad. I just went into this weird funk. And I dyed my hair black." (Let's hope the Biebs doesn't go through such a phase.)

And while Miley factored into the various rumors surrounding Bieber and Gomez's breakup, the pair have never been more than pals. In 2010, Justin and Miley went on a dinner date, but according to Us Weekly, Justin called her "not my type."

Octomom's Kids Are Releasing A Holiday Song

Last week, tween songstress Nicole Westbrook created a viral sensation with the Turkey Day jam "It's Thanksgiving."

And now it seems that Nadya "Octomom" Suleman's little ones are spreading more holiday cheer, with "I'm Ready for Christmas." Billed as "The Roctuplets," the tykes have created both a music video, currently featured on their website, and a single set for release on iTunes Friday. The titular octuplets include Jonah, Noah, Josiah, Jeremiah, Makai, Maliah, Nariah and Isaiah, while Suleman's other six children -- Elijiah, Amerah, Joshua, Aidan, Calyssa and Caleb -- round out the adorable ensemble.

"My children wanted to do a song of their own when I was recording mine, and we thought, what a great idea and how fun for the kids," Suleman told HuffPost Celebrity's Rob Shuter.

Suleman is currently in rehab, getting help for stress, anxiety, exhaustion and an addiction to Xanax, according to E! Online, but says she found time to enjoy what's sure to be a holiday classic for seasons to come.

"I wasn't able to be there for the recording or filming of the video, but I was able to see the end result and I am so proud of all of them," Suleman tells HuffPost. "I cried because I miss them so much."

Liz Smith: Kate Moss Bares All in Vanity Fair

$

"DOES IT make a difference? You're dead."

So says popular author Elmore Leonard in response to the Vanity Fair query "How would you like to die?"

  • SPEAKING OF this month's magazine, I've already told you about the Kate Moss interview. What I failed to mention was the rather startling, casual semi-nudity of the model/actress. She bares her breasts in two shots. I was surprised. I never recalled VF exposing a celebrity in such a manner, maybe Madonna back in the day. (But, you know -- that's Madonna.) The shots of Moss looked right out of Playboy, circa 1966. She's lovely, but I wonder if this is the beginning of a trend for Graydon Carter's great, groundbreaking magazine?
  • HONORED: Ben Affleck, at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival in January. Ben, riding higher than ever with Argo, will receive the Modern Master Award, the festival's highest honor. Recipients are cited for having "Enriched our culture through multi-faceted accomplishments in the motion picture industry." Ben shares this award with past honorees such as Clint Eastwood, James Cameron and George Clooney.
  • APPEARING: Liza Minnelli will appear as herself on NBC's Smash series. This is the one about a Broadway musical being launched around the legend Marilyn Monroe. In it, everybody is scheming and dreaming and at each other's throat. It stars two big talents, Debra Messing and Anjelica Huston plus oodles of brilliant Broadway veterans. Miss Minnelli, who was the youngest woman ever to receive a Tony -- for Flora the Red Menace -- will sing an original Marc Shaiman/Scott Whittman song with one of the series' stars, Christian Borle.
  • OVER: The sky-high stiletto platform heel? That's what Anamaria Wilson says in the new issue of Harper's Bazaar. She thinks women have had enough of teetering perilously. At least she has. Ms. Wilson has switched to "a ladylike pump... fresh and appealing."

Good for her, but nothing on this earth will prevent women from attempting to reach a thinner air pocket, via their shoes. The one great aberration of fashion came with the advent of flatter heels in the '60s. Mini-skirts were said to look trashy with high heels. So everybody who wore a mini, reduced her heel. This looked cute on Twiggy or Jean Shrimpton. Otherwise -- not so much. By the early 1970s, a great nostalgia wave emerged and 1940s-style platform heels returned. Women were thrilled to have height again -- and a great line to their legs. Slowly, the platforms shrank back to good old spike heels. Barring a global apocalypse, the high treacherous heel is here to stay.

P.S. Two pages after this article in Bazaar, model Candela Novembre was pictured in a pair of five-inch killers. She hadn't gotten the "ladylike pump" message.

  • WITHERING: Matthew McConaughey, for his role as an AIDS-stricken man in the movie, The Dallas Buyers Club. Obviously, Matt couldn't look as he did as the aging stripper in Magic Mike, but I can't help feeling this is just too much. I felt similarly about Christian Bale's weight loss for The Machinist (and others) and Charlize Theron's gain -- and prosthetic adjustments -- for Monster. Ditto Nicole Kidman's nose for The Hours. (If the point was to make Nicole, as writer Virginia Woolf, plain, one needed only to strip her of makeup and photograph her realistically. She was brilliant in the role, but the nose was unnecessary.)

Did this all begin with Elizabeth Taylor, and her famous "weight gain" for Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? They plopped a salt and pepper wig on her head and drew a couple of lines under her eyes, too. But the result, as Mad magazine parodied: "Oh, my God, you wouldn't want your wife to look like this. Maybe your girlfriend." Taylor had been running to fat for years, so it was really no big shock to see her so robust.

Anyway, I think these extreme abuses of the body are dangerous and frankly, stunt-like. Lose (or gain) a little weight and let the makeup and costume people do their stuff. Then -- act.

  • "YOU DON'T Own Me." That was one of pop queen Lesley Gore's great hits, and a pre-feminist movement anthem. Gore, who has become a true cult icon, is still active, concertizing. Now she is part of the South Bronx Kids-Helping Kids mentoring program. This specifically targets children who are HIV-positive. She has produced and sings on a new rap single "Pull Your Pants Up." Lesley was aided by Broadway's Joey McKneely. The song (and video) are aimed at encouraging young people to reach higher in life, despite sometimes desperate surroundings.

Lesley Gore's most well-remembered song was "It's My Party." Well, it's still Lesley Gore's party. Only now, she's not singing about the boy who left with some other girl. It's real life for her. For more info log onto www.healthpeople.org.

  • LEN CARIOU was the original leading man, the demon barber of Fleet Street in Sweeney Todd. Now, he's playing a retired policeman grandfather in the hit TV series Blue Bloods, opposite Tom Selleck who portrays his son.

I needn't extol Mr. Cariou's big talents, but you can catch him in the stunning cabaret room 54 Below where such as Penny Fuller, James Rados, Anita Gillette, Lee Roy Reams and other theater vets love to get together.

Len Cariou will be seen here two more Mondays on Nov. 19th and 26th.

"666 Park Avenue" has been canceled after only seven episodes, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The ABC drama starring Rachael Taylor, Dave Annable, Vanessa Williams and Terry O'Quinn centered on the lives of a young couple who move into an upscale Manhattan building called The Drake only to find it may be haunted.

According to THR, ABC will air all 13 episodes of the series.

The cancellation doesn't come as much of a surprise. "666 Park Avenue" went from just about 7 million viewers to under 4 million over its two months on the air. Its rating in the 18-49 demographic has also spiraled downward week after week.

ABC also announced that fellow freshman drama "Last Resort" has been canceled.

Alex Jeffries: Azealia Banks In Los Angeles: Rising Rapper's Surprise Performance at DETAILS Magazine Party

Azealia Banks performed at Details magazine party "DETAILS @ Midnight" in Los Angeles Wednesday night, playing a quick set highlighted by Banks' hits "212" and "Liquorice."

DETAILS @ Midnight (#detailsatmidnight) is an ongoing series of events held throughout the U.S. that features up-and-coming artists in hip venues. Past events have featured artists such as Kid Cudi and Theophilus London. That bar, Bootsy Bellows, is a small lounge on Sunset in Hollywood, and it brimmed with sharply dressed Los Angelenos. That it was so packed proved that DETAILS @ Midnight's surprise artist conceit is gaining traction.

At a few minutes past 12 o'clock, Banks arrived. The crowd erupted the second Banks slid through the silvery strands that separate the stage from the back room, greeting the quick-tongued 21-year-old rapper with shouts and whistles. Though not everyone knows her by name (one bystander asked, "Is she famous?"), the audience's screaming profane sing-alongs offered her a passionate embrace.

2012-11-16-azealiabanks.jpg

Banks rapped emphatically while strutting back and forth on the small stage. There's no pausing, no small talk and no letting up and that energy translates to an enthusiastic audience. Behind the first rows of people hanging onto Banks' every lyric are rows of people standing on tables and couches, each seemingly raising their drink in excited salute. Banks shrugged off the stadium-esque atmosphere and focused on the people immediately in front of her. It was an intimate occasion with the feeling of a brash celebration.

"212," Banks' biggest hit, was saved for the end of a short but sweet set. It may have been no more than 10 minutes in total, but that's all it took to work the front few rows into an excitable, jabbering frenzy.

With that, she said a few words of gratitude then disappeared back through those silvery strands separating the stage from the back rooms, and we're all left waiting, wanting more. Until then, there's her mixtape Fantasea, and the fervent hope for the debut of a full-length album.

FLASHBACK FRIDAY: Kristen Stewart's First Role Ever

Long before Kristen Stewart took over tabloid covers and the "Twilight" franchise, the actress made her debut on the small screen in a Disney Channel Original Movie.

Though she didn't have any lines, nor was the stint credited, you can see eight-year-old Stewart in a white turtleneck, waiting on line at the water fountain in 1999's "Thirteenth Year." In honor of Flashback Friday, you can watch her at 34 minutes and 51 seconds into the clip below.

The TV movie, about an adopted teenager who turns into his true merman self on his 13th birthday, also stars Dave Coulier, better known as Uncle Joey from "Full House," as the boy's adoptive father.

AfterEllen.com is Logo's site for lesbians and bisexual women in entertainment and media, which means we pride ourselves on knowing all kinds of Sapphic pop-culture facts. Each week we share some of the best tidbits on The Huffington Post in our series "Best Lesbian Week Ever." Here's who and what was on our raging gay radar this week.

We're still winning!: Out lesbian Tina Kotek has been elected House Speaker of Oregon, which means she's our first gay lady to hold down the job. She needs some sort of secret handshake with Tammy Baldwin and Kyrsten Sinema, Arizona's bisexual congress member.

Getting lit: NYC has a new lesbian bar, The Dalloway, and it's named after a Virginia Woolf character. Something tells me the women aren't going there to do any reading.

LOL: Ellen DeGeneres said she enjoyed Kate McKinnon's impression of her on SNL over the weekend. We're just happy they finally have a lesbian on the show so we can see Ellen, Tabatha Coffey> and other celesbians get some play. But someone, please, fix Kate's wig.

Off the field: Pro soccer player Megan Rapinoe was honored at the L.A. Gay and Lesbian Center Gala last weekend and she cleaned up nicely. She's still rocking one of her team colors, though.

In other awards news: J. Crew designer Jenna Lyons was named a "Fashion Original" at Glamour's Women of the Year Awards. She thanked her partner, Courtney Crangi, which was apparently the first time she's uttered her name in public.

Get Out:Out100 put an actual lesbian on its cover this year. Well, one of its covers. Out of four. Yay Jane Lynch!

The Worst New Hollywood Wedding Trend

$

While we love that more stars are embracing modern wedding trends, such as colored gowns and smaller affairs, there's one celeb style trend we just can't get behind: the way-too-big engagement ring.

From JWoww's five carat boulder to Avril Lavigne's pear-shaped moon rock, these enormous stones look both impractical and over-the-top.

Yes, we're happy you're engaged (we love weddings!) but these rings don't prove that you're in love, they simply show the world you've got bucks to burn. Case in point: Kim Kardashian. She sported a massive20.5 carat rock from Kris Humphries, and we all know how that marriage turned out. What we're saying is simple: the size of your ring doesn't correlate with the strength of your love. If you're happy with your giant bauble, great. But a smaller stone doesn't mean your marriage is doomed to fail.

Click through the slideshow below to see some of the worst big-ring offenders, then head to the comments to let us know what you think of this trend.

'Twilight' Actor & Animal Rights Activist Defends Franchise Against PETA

Actor and animal rights activist Kellan Lutz is finding himself in a difference of opinion with PETA, an organization that he actively represents and promotes.

Festivities for the L.A. premiere of "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2" included caged wolves, a reference to the werewolves in the movie. PETA took issue with the treatment of the wolves, releasing a statement at the movie's premiere on Monday. "Didn't it dawn on the 'Twilight' event organizers that real wolves do not belong at a party with blaring music and flashing lights?" a PETA spokeswoman said in an interview with TheWrap.

HuffPost Entertainment caught up with Lutz at the New York screening of "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2," hosted by The Cinema Society with The Hollywood Reporter and Samsung Galaxy, and got his take.

"I would love to know where the wolves came from," Lutz said. "If those are someone's personal pets and they're trained that way, then to each their own to do what they want. It's not like they took them out of the wild."

Lutz has appeared in ad campaigns for PETA and helped raise money for the organization.

"Not to step on PETA's shoes or anything, but they were in a loving environment, they were treated very well -- I don't think we can point fingers at anyone for having a collar on too tight or anything like that," Lutz continued. "Those wolves were so sweet and I think it was a good addition."

NSFW Video: Lady Gaga's Bathtub Striptease

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina — Lady Gaga's tweets were getting a lot of attention ahead of her Buenos Aires concert Friday night.

The Grammy-winning entertainer has more than 30 million followers on Twitter and that's where she shared a link this week to a short video showing her doing a striptease and fooling around in a bathtub with two other women.

She told her followers that it's a "surprise for you, almost ready for you to TASTE."

Then, in between concerts in Brazil and Argentina, she posted a picture Thursday on her Twitter page showing her wallowing in her underwear and impossibly high heels on top of the remains of what appears to be a strawberry shortcake.

"The real CAKE isn't HAVING what you want, it's DOING what you want," she tweeted.

Lady Gaga wore decidedly unglamorous baggy jeans and a blouse outside her Buenos Aires hotel Thursday as three burly bodyguards kept her fans at bay. Another pre-concert media event where she was supposed to be given "guest of honor" status by the city government Friday afternoon was cancelled.

After Argentina, she is scheduled to perform in Santiago, Chile; Lima, Peru; and Asuncion, Paraguay, before taking her "Born This Way Ball" tour to Africa, Europe and North America.

Martin Scorsese was born in Queens, New York on Nov. 17, 1942. In the 70 years since his birth, he's responsible for some of the most indelible images in the history of film. From "Mean Streets" and "Taxi Driver" to "Raging Bull" and "Goodfellas" to "The Departed" and "Hugo," Scorsese contributions to film will be remembered and imitated probably throughout the rest of time.

To celebrate Scorsese's big milestone, HuffPost Entertainment has compiled 70 of the best quotes from his films. "You talkin' to me?" is there; so is "I get to live the rest of my life like a schnook." But is "I'm gonna make all this meat"? You'll have to find out in the slideshow below. The Breakout Star Of 'Life Of Pi'

NEW YORK -- The only thing more unlikely than a movie about a boy adrift on a ship with a Bengali tiger is the tale of the film's star.

Teenager Suraj Sharma went along with his acting brother to a Delhi, India, audition of "Life of Pi" purely as a favor, motivated by the promise of a free meal.

"He said, `Come with me because I don't want to go alone,'" Sharma recalled in an interview at Lincoln Center shortly before the film premiered at the New York Film Festival in September. "I said, `Fine, as long as you buy me a sandwich afterwards.' That sandwich got me `Pi.'"

For a film about the wonder of faith, Sharma's experience is one that stretches belief. Despite no prior acting experience or ambition, he managed to separate himself from 3,000 applicants and emerged through four rounds of auditions as the star in one of the most anticipated movies of the year.

For "Life of Pi" to work, Sharma – now 19, 17 when filming started – had to succeed. And many think the film, to be released Wednesday, not only works, but is a legitimate Oscar contender – a 3-D magic act from director Ang Lee that translates Yann Martel's 2001 best seller into a colorful cinematic language.

In it, Sharma plays Pi Patel, who, as a child, precociously combines Christianity, Buddhism and Islam into his own blend of religion. When his family is uprooted to Canada, the ship taking Pi, his family and many zoo animals, sinks in a storm, leaving Pi alone and clinging to life in a raft boat.

Making the film meant working with one of the most revered directors in movies. It meant spending months shooting in India and Taiwan, where a giant water tank was built for scenes at sea. It meant learning not only how to act, but literally how to swim.

"I can't put it in words," says Sharma, a bright and earnest kid who humbly recognizes his good fortune. "It's too much. It was emotionally and spiritually and physically exhausting. I would never be able to tell people what I went through exactly, but hopefully it will come through in some ways."

It was a journey Sharma's parents (both mathematicians, fittingly) had some reluctance about, as it would mean missing a year of school. Lee argued a year spent working on "Life of Pi" would be more rewarding than a year of school. Sharma's mother performed a ceremony that made Lee her son's guru – a new role for the director.

"I couldn't even tell a joke in front of him. I had to behave," Lee jokes. "I had to look after him. Normally when I work with actors, they move on and I move on. ... I can pretty much say he started at the top – getting this kind of reception and making a movie. So I want to make sure he's grounded and still getting his education – not only in school but in life. He should be OK if he doesn't get crushed by what's coming."

"He's a good boy," adds Lee. "It seems like he can take it."

In "Life of Pi," there's nowhere for a young actor to hide, either. For a long stretch of the film, Pi is alone in the skiff with only the tiger, which was digitally added. Sharma had the added pressure of acting extensively in front of a blue screen, with little to go on other than Lee's directions.

"Honestly, I still feel like I don't know how to act," says Sharma. "It was just him. I was just an instrument. He has this thing – suppose you're really nervous and stressed out and going crazy – he'll look you in the eye in a particular manner, and no matter who it is, you just go: whoosh! He's like a Zen master or something. He makes you so calm that you just let him mold you into whatever he wants to mold you into."

Sharma is now in his first year at Delhi University where he's concentrating his studies on philosophy.

"I'm pretty sure I want to end up in the film industry," he says. "I don't know if I want to act or not, but I do want to be part of making magic."

How can President Obama get back at the people who tried to paint him as an angry black man pushing a liberal agenda? According to Bill Maher, by becoming an angry black man who's pushing a liberal agenda.

It might be that Obama's real mandate in this election is to finally embrace not giving a damn what the right thinks and making good on the hope he initially inspired in progressives. But as Maher explains in this week's new rules, it's up to liberals to hold his feet to the fire on that one.

Watch Maher's appeal to Obama in the clip above and let us know what you think in the comments. Is it time for Obama to become an apologetic liberal in his final term?
