Susan Boyle: This Year Has Been Surreal

0
0

Standing Ovation is the album I've always wanted to make. My fourth album in three years and probably the one I am most proud of.

You see, I have a long standing affiliation with musicals. As a wee girl the family would often congregate round the TV watching the old classics, South Pacific, Mary Poppins, Oliver, Fiddler on the Roof and then as I got older I went to see my first stage musical Les Miserables and from there I was hooked, captivated and I loved the way you could transform yourself into another world with the emotive lyrics.

This album is also extra special to me as I got the chance to duet with my childhood idol Donny Osmond. Not only did we record together, I was then invited to sing with him in LA on Dancing With the Stars and then to Las Vegas to perform in his show at the Flamingo.

It was a surreal experience and one that I will never forget. I was so nervous before going on stage, I can't begin to tell you. It's one thing meeting the person you have idolised since you were 13 but to have to get up on stage, well I felt like I had a severe case of stage fright. It was so overwhelming but at the same time so exciting that another dream had come true and another box ticked on my bucket list.

This year I have wanted to get far more involved in promotion for the album. I'm less weary of talking to people and I felt I wanted to give back something to say thank you for all the support that has been given to me by so many over the past few years.

I will be signing albums in HMV in Glasgow and Edinburgh, I have a trip to New York to do performances on the Today show and some other great shows and see my old friend, Piers Morgan. I'm performing on a host of UK TV shows including the lottery, This Morning, Lorraine and I'm very excited to be able to support Children In Need again this year. That evening is one of the highlights for me.

I have become a little more technologically savvy this year too and taken part in some Twitter Q&As. Despite temperamental internet they have been great fun to take part in and I really enjoy all the varied questions. Not only does it give me a direct line of communication to fans which is so vitally important I can also reassure people that rumours that pop up are simply not true. I've also helped come up with questions for a new facebook app. It was fun to create these questions and see how well people know me and also musical trivia.

It has been another fantastic year- I've tried to rise to the new challenges and settle my fears that this will all be over soon. I'm enjoying myself more and feel that life in my career as well as in my personal life is getting better. Here's hoping you enjoy this album as much as I enjoyed making it.

Standing Ovation is out on 19 November. You can pre-order it by clicking here.

6 Top Secret Celebrity Romances

Were Kirstie Alley and Patrick Swayze really once an item?

In an interview with "Entertainment Tonight" earlier this week, the 61-year-old actress admitted that she and the late actor fell in love on the set of their 1985 TV series, "North and South," while they were both married. Alley was quick to clarify that they "did not have an affair."

"I think what I did was worse," she said. "Because I think when you fall in love with someone when you're married, you jeopardize your own marriage and their marriage. It's doubly bad."

Alley may have shocked fans with her admission, but she's hardly the first celeb to carry on a secret affair. Click through the slideshow below for five more under-the-radar celebrity romances.

Which 8 Contestants Went Home On 'The Voice'?

"The Voice" eliminated eight of its contestants on Thursday after the first week of live performances.

Joselyn Rivera and Loren Allred were eliminated from Team Adam, with America saving Amanda Brown and Bryan Keith, while Adam saved Melanie Martinez. Melanie was crying even before Adam made his decision and balled when her name was revealed. "No one is better than the other, I don't believe that," Adam said before announcing his decision. Joselyn thanked everyone and said graciously, "You don't have to win to be a winner."

Blake Shelton lost Julio Cesar Castillo and Liz Davis from his team. America saved Terry McDermott and Cassadee Pope, who will be moving on along with Michaela Paige, who Blake saved. "I want everybody at home to know that each one of them has given 100 percent," Blake said, adding that any one of them could win.

From Christina Aguilera's team, De'Borah and Devyn DeLoera were eliminated. America voted to keep Dez Duron and Sylvia Yacoub around and Christina's save went to Adriana. "Please never ever let anyone or anyone's opinion ever define who you are," Christina told her bottom three, citing her early loss at Star Search as proof to never give up.

Mackenzie Bourg and Diego Val went home from Team Cee Lo. Trevin Hunt and Nicholas David were saved by America and Cee Lo saved Cody Belew. "I will always be with you, spirit and support," Cee Lo told Mackenzie, Cody and Diego. "If one of us wins, we all win."

The remaining Top 12 contestants will move on to the semi-final live rounds next week.

Before the eliminations began, Team Adam and Team Blake sang Kelly Clarkson's "Stronger," while Team Cee Lo and Team Christina took on "Drive By" by Train. Maroon 5, featuring "Voice" coach Adam Levine as its frontman, also performed their new single "Daylight," while wearing head-to-toe royal blue, but that still didn't compare to Cee Lo's leopard outfit.

"The Voice" goes back to its regular schedule next week, airing Monday and Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.

Like many Hollywood stars, Demi Moore's high-profile marriages and leading roles have worked in tandem in catapulting her to stardom. But in between becoming Mrs. Bruce Willis and later saying "I do" to Ashton Kutcher, the New Mexico-born beauty has continued to amass acting credits that show off her natural ability to transform in spite of how her life plays out in the tabloids. Case in point: that "G.I. Jane" buzz cut.

After flipping through old photographs of Demi, one thing is for certain: She takes dressing up for every day life just as seriously as getting into character. While dating actor Emilio Estevez in the '80s, she wore thick-framed glasses, oversized sweaters and tousled locks. She blossomed as a wife and mother alongside Bruce in the '90s in sheer and lacy gowns and glamorous hair and makeup. Then Demi proved herself to be just as hot as her much younger ex Ashton in minidresses and sexy heels.

As Demi celebrates her 50th birthday on Sunday (November 11th), we're taking a look back at the actress' ever-evolving style. Vote on all her looks in the slideshow below.

Meanwhile, head over to our pals at HuffPost Celebrity for a rundown on Demi's eventful year... so far.

Rumer Willis and beau Jayson Blair seem to be getting serious. The New York Post recently reported that the daughter of Demi Moore and Bruce Willis and the "New Normal" actor met with Blair's parents for a "get-to-know-you chat." "It seems to have gone really well," a source told the newspaper. "There was laughter and conversation."

And Thursday, the couple were seen frolicking on the beach in Miami, Fla., and sharing an affectionate moment in the ocean.

Later that night, when Rumer and her band prepared to play at the opening of the SLS Hotel South Beach, a source told People, "Jayson was so caring and cuddly with Rumer before she performed. They were standing by an elevator nook and he was helping her get ready, giving her confidence, being super supportive."

David Hasselhoff Reminisces About Christmas

David Hasselhoff loves Christmas. And as it's his favorite time of year, it should be no surprise that Hasselhoff is starring in a Lifetime movie called "The Christmas Consultant.”

“My Christmas wish would be to have an entire week off. To spend it with my family and just curl up and watch Christmas movies when it’s showing outside,” David tells The Huffington Post. “I grew up in Chicago, and there was always snow. In Los Angeles there never was, so we would always import snow! I think it's a great time for me with my family. We always watch 'It’s A Wonderful Life’ and ‘White Christmas,’ spending it together.”

Importing snow isn’t cheap, but it’s not Christmas without it, David says.

“There is a snow-making machine that you can rent. Every Christmas, the kids would look forward to it, so I would cover the entire front yard with snow. Yeah, it was great -- we would have snowball fights. It was awesome. Then it would melt and ruin into horrible slush and ruin the entire lawn, but who cares about a lawn?"

David says it was Christmas that changed his life: The star received a go-kart when he was in the eighth grade, a gift that he says launched his future career as the "Knight Rider."

In the Lifetime movie "The Christmas Consultant," David plays opposite Caroline Rhea. The movie airs on Saturday at 8 p.m. EST.

Dan Lybarger: Christopher Walken Talks A Late Quartet

0
0

With his slow Queens drawl, high forehead and even higher hair, Christopher Walken has never been anything less than distinct. But in a career that spans (according to IMDB) 121 TV and movie appearances, the Oscar winner is most widely known for a specialty portfolio of volatile antagonists, unhinged protagonists and generally obsessive types (one of whom memorably keeps demanding "more cowbell" from Blue Öyster Cult on Saturday Night Live, a show he's hosted seven times).

Yet Walken remains a versatile performer capable of mesmerizing subtlety. In contrast to the likable dognapper he plays in the recent Seven Psychopaths, his character in this week's new release A Late Quartet is a veteran cellist forced to leave his popular string quartet when he develops Parkinson's.

In a telephone conversation with The Pitch, Walken explains what it's like to defy audience expectations and what it's like to be a viral-video star without Internet access.

Your father came here from Germany, and your mother was from Scotland. Did growing up as a first generation American affect the way you speak?

Walken: Absolutely. Both my parents came over as adults. I think in the neighborhood I came from, there were people from all over, mostly Europe. My friends were all first generation. My father had a bakery. Everybody who worked there spoke German. The people in the neighborhood generally had strong accents from some place or other, and sometimes they spoke more of their original language than they did English.

They didn't really have to speak a lot of English because they brought their food and their culture and their music and their language with them. I grew up with a lot of people who spoke English as a second language. I'm sure that's got something to do with the way I speak.

Will Kristen Bell Show Her Face On 'Gossip Girl'?

Kristen Bell, the voice of Gossip Girl for the past six years, will reportedly appear in the "Gossip Girl" series finale. According to TVLine, the "Veronica Mars" star will likely appear in the series final set to air on Monday, December 17.

Warner Bros. had no comment about Bell's alleged appearance.

The actress has provided the voice of the titular blogger since the show premiered in 2007. She's been outspoken about her desire to appear on the show.

"I certainly would if they asked me," Bell said about appearing on "Gossip Girl." "It really depends on how the characters unfold and if they want to villainize someone or give someone the champion stick of being Gossip Girl in the end other than me. Die hard fans know it’s me, but I think normal people who watch the show care a lot more about the characters they see every week. There’s a lot of variables."

Will she appear as Gossip Girl? That's one secret we'd never tell (even if we knew).

IT'S ALMOST HERE: 'Twilight' Fans Descend On Los Angeles

0
0

LOS ANGELES — Stacey Buckley of Bournemouth, England, decided last year that she had to be in Los Angeles for the premiere of the final "Twilight" film.

She saved her money, rounded up some other local Twi-Hards she met online and booked a ticket for the U.S., where she'll spend four nights camping out in front of the Nokia Theatre with some 1,500 other "Twilight" fans.

"My brother says I need to see a shrink," said the 29-year-old, who wore tiny Union Jack flags in her hair like antennae. "This is the last one, so I said, `Let's do it in style.'"

Fans of the vampire-romance series registered online for a chance to spend the weekend at a temporary tent city that filled the street in front of Staples Center and sprawled across L.A. Live plaza Friday. They wore "Twilight" buttons and T-shirts, and decorated their tents with homemade posters and photo collages of stars Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner. Campers will be treated to three days of "Twilight" screenings and activities and will get to see the film's stars arrive for the premiere of "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2" on Monday.

Buckley, who came with three British pals, had a sign on her tent that read: "5,430 miles flown; 90 hours camped; all because we're Twi-Hard Brits."

Bri-Anne Glover and Stephanie Dodson, who work together at a coin-collecting shop in Florida, also spent a year planning their "Twilight" camp out. Both of them moms, they left their kids with their husbands, closed their store for a week and headed to Southern California.

"Everyone thinks we're crazy," Dodson said.

"We're never going to have this opportunity again," Glover said. "This is truly the most exciting experience that I've had."

Wendi Reynolds of Philadelphia was thrilled when she won the chance to participate in the "Twilight" fan camp. The 48-year-old bought a tent, got tips from other fans who'd camped out before and made the trip solo.

"I'm doing something that I really, really love," she said as she put together a scrapbook of pictures and memorabilia from past "Twilight" conventions. "This is the last premiere and I've always wanted to come, so I am soaking it up."

Reynolds said she made fast friends with her tent neighbors and notes that "Twilight" fans aren't "just a bunch of screaming teenagers." She was drawn first to the books and then the films because of the love story they tell.

"It's two people in love and it's just so awesome," she said. "She just loves him for who he is. Even though he thinks he has a handicap or a flaw, but that's what she loves about him."

Life-sized cardboard cutouts of Pattinson and Stewart dotted the tent-filled landscape as various fan groups handed out freebies. Sharon Lottes of Arizona, who runs two "Twilight"-themed websites when she's not working as a hospital secretary, passed out stickers and pens to fellow fans – just as she has at fan camps for previous "Twilight" premieres.

"You bring stuff. You meet people," said the 29-year-old. "It's the world's biggest sleep-over, and at our age, who gets to do that?"

Fans of the series bond easily, she said, and the fan camp is a great place to "let your freak flag fly."

"This is the one place where no matter how intense your fandom is, you bring it," she said.

A bourgeoning economy also developed inside the tent city, with some fans selling posters, buttons and even a "sparkle spray" to lend a Cullen-esque shimmer to the skin.

Rain on Thursday and a chilly wind on Friday didn't dampen campers' spirits. They participated in a group exercise class Friday morning, then sucked down free Jamba Juice smoothies. Screenings of the second and third films in the series, "New Moon" and "Eclipse," were planned for Friday night. Saturday's activities include live performances of song from the new film's soundtrack, and a screening of "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1."

Stars from the franchise are set to visit the fan camp on Sunday.

"The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2" opens in the U.S. on Nov. 16.

Anderson Cooper Talks With David Letterman About Being Gay

"Dave, I'm gay. We don't do this kind of thing."

That was Anderson Cooper's humorous response to David Letterman's fist bump during a "Late Show" interview, due to air Nov. 9.

The clip doesn't divulge too many details of the interview, but either way, it's great to see the CNN anchor chatting about his sexuality with a level of irreverence we wouldn't have expected from him a year ago.

Padma Lakshmi Is Quite Fond Of Wendy Williams' Boobs

"Top Chef" host Padma Lakshmi stopped by "The Wendy Williams Show" Friday afternoon, and Padma greeted Wendy with a very tender embrace.

"That was quite the hug!" Wendy remarked after the greeting.

"I know. I've been lusting after your chest for so long, and I could not resist the temptation to motorboat you. It felt great," Padma joked.

Padma echoed her praise for Williams' bosom on Twitter.

But even after all the flattery, Wendy couldn't let the interview pass without breaking out an embarrassing picture of Padma wearing a spandex jumpsuit in "Glitter." Padma wasn't pleased. "That picture was hideous, because it's borderline camel-toe," she confessed.

WATCH: Nathan Fillion Describes His 'Firefly' Audition In 'Browncoats Unite' Special

0
0

It's hard to believe that it's been 10 years since Joss Whedon's "Firefly" made its debut -- yet after only 13 episodes and one unexpected movie, its impact on pop culture is undeniable.

Not only was it the project that arguably launched the careers of Nathan Fillion (who recently paid homage to the show's legacy on a convention-themed episode of "Castle"), Adam Baldwin, Alan Tudyk, Gina Torres, Summer Glau and Morena Baccarin, it also became a cult hit thanks to its success on DVD.

New fans continue to discover the show to this day, but with Netflix and other networks trying to revive other gone-too-soon classics like "Arrested Development," "Firefly's" premature cancellation continues to be a source of frustration for the loyal Browncoats who supported the show from its inception.

On November 11, Science Channel will pay homage to the beloved sci-fi series, starting with an all-day marathon at 7 a.m. and culminating with a retrospective 10th anniversary special, "Firefly: Browncoats Unite," at 10 p.m. ET. The special reunites the original cast -- Fillion, Tudyk, Torres, Baldwin, Glau, Sean Maher and Jewel Staite -- with Whedon and executive producers Tim Minear and Jose Molina, as they recount the complete oral history of the show, from its conception to its heartbreaking cancellation and surprising rebirth as sequel movie "Serenity" in 2005.

Above, watch HuffPost TV's exclusive clip from the special, which features Fillion recounting his memory of his first audition for the role of Captain Mal Reynolds, captain of the ragtag band of misfits who crewed the Firefly-class ship Serenity. The camaraderie between the actors is still evident to this day, and if this 10th anniversary special convinces us of one thing, it's that Joss Whedon needs to take all of that hard-earned "Avengers" cash and resurrect the series for real. Shiny.

"Firefly: Browncoats Unite" airs Sunday, November 11 at 10 p.m. ET on Science Channel.

Would you watch a "Firefly" revival? Are you excited for the Science special? Weigh in below!

Trish Bendix: Best Lesbian Moments Of The Week

0
0

AfterEllen.com is Logo's site for lesbians and bisexual women in entertainment and media, which means we pride ourselves on knowing all kinds of Sapphic pop-culture facts. Each week we share some of the best tidbits on The Huffington Post in our series "Best Lesbian Week Ever." Here's who and what was on our raging gay radar this week.

Wisconsin FTW: Well, it's pretty clear that Tammy Baldwin is the big winner. As the first out lesbian ever elected to the U.S. Senate, she's having the best lesbian week ever, which means we are, too!

Four more years!:Being referred to as "an angry young man" by a Fox anchor doesn't necessarily make for a good week, but it's probably a tiny blip on Rachel Maddow's radar this week, as she had an election to worry about. Her election coverage on MSNBC made her far and away the number-one woman to watch on Tuesday night, and all year long, for that matter.

Give her a hand: Out actress Sarah Paulson deserves an Emmy for her work on American Horror Story this week. Her character, Lana, goes through conversion therapy to make her less of a lesbian, but all she ends up doing is giving an unsuccessful hand job while puking nonstop. It was hard to watch, but it's history, man. That shit happened.

Not that funny after all: Yael Kohen's oral history of women in comedy, We Killed It, touches on the careers of lesbian comedians like Ellen DeGeneres, Lily Tomlin and Carol Leifer. Readers will learn what it was like for Ellen to decide to come out on her television show, and how Lily Tomlin was kept closeted during her own. Ha, ha?

A picture is worth 1,000 jawdrops: The people at V magazine can apparently get women to do anything they want. This month it's Rihanna and Kate Moss posing topless -- on top of one another. Are they hiring? Because I've got some ideas for future issues.

Parents just don't understand: Sophia Swanson comes out to her homophobic mom and dad on this week's episode of Underemployed, but not without trying to de-gay her apartment first. Did you know navajo rugs, candles and The Color Purple are tell-tale signs of lesbianism? Oh, and a vibrator.

Bye-bye, Debo:The Voice's lone lesbian contestant De'Borah Garner performed an energetic rendition of Pink's "Who Knew?" this week but was ultimately eliminated after neither America nor coach Christina Aguilera opted to save her. We'll miss her swagger on that stage.

What good Fortune: Lesbian comic Fortune Feimster has a show in development at ABC, and she'll be one of its stars. This is great news, as NBC is currently winning the gay-off that networks don't know they are having.

0

Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who stars in the new, critically-acclaimed film "Lincoln," has been appearing on screen for two decades straight ... and he's only 31.

Many of Gordon-Levitt's early years were spent on popular TV shows including, "Roseanne" and "Family Ties," and in honor of Flashback Friday, you can watch his adorable face on those shows and more below!

In 1988, Gordon-Levitt appeared in two episodes of "Family Ties" as Dougie, a kindergarten friend of the youngest Keaton, Andrew (Brian Bonsall).

A couple of years later, in 1991, he joined the TV adaptation of "Dark Shadows" and stayed on the NBC series for 11 episodes until its cancellation. Gordon-Levitt played both Daniel Collins and his modern day descendant David. Watch him do his best screaming below.

And finally, we have Gordon-Levitt's four-episode stint on "Roseanne," where he grew up in front of audiences' eyes. In 1993, he played George, the Conners' neighbor and DJ's (Michael Fishman) very boring friend.

Just a few years later, the young actor got his big break on "3rd Rock From The Sun" and now, he's a Golden Globe-nominated actor, getting major roles in indie films and epic blockbusters alike.

Justin Bieber & Selena Gomez Call It Quits

0
0

If you listen closely you'll hear the sound of tween and teenage girls around the world shrieking with joy because Justin Bieber is reportedly a single man.

E! News reports that the 18-year-old pop star split from girlfriend of nearly two years, Selena Gomez. Sources told the website that the pop star power couple broke up about a week ago, claiming that "because of their crazy schedules, it was getting harder and harder to maintain a relationship."

Fans (or haters) of "Jelena" shouldn't be surprised by news of the breakup, since the couple was rumored to be having relationship troubles for weeks. Last month, sources told RadarOnline that Bieber and Gomez were on the verge of breaking up all the time, because jealousy was killing the relationship. The source claimed that Bieber was head over heels for Gomez, 20, but she wasn't feeling it anymore, and was just riding out the relationship because her team felt the relationship was good for her image.

Amid reports of trouble in paradise, Bieber even opened up about his romance with Gomez, telling Oprah Winfrey, "I don't keep her separate from me because I don't ever want to make her feel like I'm ashamed of her."

It sounds like Gomez might have been the one to pull the plug on the relationship, but young love is a fickle thing and Bieber may have already moved on. The teen singer has now been linked to Victoria's Secret model Barbara Palvin, 19, after she tweeted a photo of the two of them going to see "The Lion King" on Broadway.

Bieber's fans are known to be possessive of their man, so it's no surprise that Palvin appears to have tried to quash the rumors by tweeting:

Court Makes A Decision In Halle Berry's Custody Case

0
0

Looks like Halle Berry will be staying in the U.S. a bit longer.

On Friday, a judge in Los Angeles ruled that the actress, who went through a publicized custody battle with her ex Gabriel Aubry over their 4-year-old daughter Nahla last year, will not be able to move to France, TMZ reports.

Berry, who is engaged to French actor Olivier Martinez, requested the move abroad earlier this year, siting Paris as a safer location for Nahla to grow up in. But Aubry, a residence of Los Angeles, objected her request, due to the fact that Berry would be taking away their daughter.

Well, as it turns out, the court sided with Aubry on this one.

Aubry, 36, and Berry, 46, split in 2010 after dating for five years. Their relationship quickly became strained as they battled over custody issues, including his reported anger problems and her demanding film schedule.

After a bitter court war, the couple came to what had appeared to be an amicable agreement.

"Our issues were never about fighting for her," Berry said at the time of Nahla. "We both know a child needs both her parents. But what I want to say about it is sometimes, as a couple, you reach an impasse. We needed a court and a judge to help us work out some of the delicate issues, and I'm so happy we've arrived at that place."

Matthew Perry Headed Back To 'The Good Wife'

0
0

Matthew Perry is headed back to "The Good Wife." According to Deadline.com, Perry will guest star on a 2013 episode of the hit CBS series, once again playing Mike Kresteva, a candidate for governor running against Peter Florrick (Chris Noth). As Perry himself noted in interviews, Kresteva is an "all-out bad guy."

That Perry is returning to "The Good Wife" at all is a bit of a coup. He appeared in two episodes at the end of last season, but further plans for Kresteva were shelved when "Go On," the NBC comedy pilot that Perry starred in, was picked up by the rival network. "Go On" has since become one of NBC's bright spots this fall and was recently picked up for a full season.

As the actor told Zap2it.com in August, the original plan was for Kresteva to appear in "nine or 10 episodes."

"I wish I could do both shows, but you just can't," Perry said in August. "So far, the two episodes they've given me are some of the best writing I've encountered."

For more on Perry and his "Good Wife" return, head over to Deadline.com.
