Jessica Simpson Coping With Parents' Divorce, Affair Rumors Quashed

New mom and bride-to-be Jessica Simpson is coping with her parents' divorce, as Joe and Tina Simpson quash rumors of an extramarital affair.

Jessica is doing well in the wake of her parents' split, a source told People magazine. "She's going on with everything," the source said. "She's sad, but she's okay."

Simpson's parents, Joe and Tina, announced they are splitting after 34 years of marriage on Wednesday. Divorce papers filed in Texas court and obtained by TMZ reveal that Tina filed for divorce from Joe on Sept. 24 citing "discord or conflict of personalities." Joe filed a response to Tina's divorce petition, asking that Tina get nothing from the split, TMZ reported.

Rumors of an extramarital affair and gay allegations have swirled since the divorce announcement. The story developed from a National Enquirer report which claimed that Joe, 54, had been dating 21-year-old male model Bryce Chandler Hill.

However, in a statement released to People magazine by a Simpson spokesperson, affair rumors were quickly quashed. "It is an amicable split and there is no third party involved," the rep said. "Any other related allegations are completely false. The family appreciates your respect for their privacy at this time."

Joe and Tina Simpson, who have been very active in Jessica's and her sister Ashlee's careers, seemed happily married just last year. In August 2011, Joe tweeted that he and Tina were toasting to their 33rd wedding anniversary on vacation in Hawaii.

Things have not been smooth sailing recently, however. On Aug. 4, Joe was arrested for DUI after he blew a .12 at a sobriety checkpoint on Ventura Boulevard, TMZ reported. Earlier this month, Joe, a minister turned Hollywood manager, and Tina listed their Los Angeles-area home for $4.395 million. The listing fueled further speculation before the couple publicly confirmed the split.

At Saturday night's Midori Green Halloween party, Kim Kardashian explained that if Hurricane Sandy hit her "captain" Kanye West would sail her to safety if need be.

But jokes aside, the reality TV queen was far more practical this weekend, when she and sister Kourtney hit the supermarket in Miami to stock up on water ... lots and lots of water.

While we're impressed with Kim's preparedness, we might suggest picking up something to eat before the storm hits.

'Star Wars' TV Show Already In The Works

$

0

As your brain tries to absorb the news of Disney's purchase of Lucasfilm, wrap your brain around this: George Lucas has been amassing scripts for a live-action TV project for several years.

It's far too early to say when a "Star Wars" TV show could be on our screens -- possibly on Disney-owned ABC -- but a drama set in that universe wouldn't have to start from scratch. Lucasfilm has dozens of scripts for the project already in the hopper.

"They are working with writers on scripts," a Lucasfilm representative told me for a 2010 story on "Star Wars" on TV. "They won't set a production date [for the show] until the scripts are done."

As I wrote then, "This isn't a project that George Lucas has gone out of his way to promote -- word has leaked out in dribs and drabs at various conventions and in a few interviews … But work on the unnamed show's scripts appears to be at an advanced stage -- which isn't surprising, considering the writing of the live-action show began" in 2008.

Two years ago, the Lucasfilm rep confirmed that casting had not yet begun (every so often, rumors of the project hit the Internet and get fans stirred into a frenzy). But here are a few things we do know about it:

  • Writers for the series were recruited from all over the world, including the U.S., U.K. and Australia.
  • Bounty hunters (possibly including Boba Fett) and minor characters from the "Star Wars" universe of books and games are said to be the focus of the new show, which takes place in the time frame between "Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith" and "Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope."
  • Though the Cartoon Network "Clone Wars" show features characters such as Anakin, Yoda and Mace Windu, the best-known characters from the "Star Wars" universe wouldn't be the draw. "The live-action [TV show] has nobody there, because it's after Episode III, so everybody's dead, basically, or hiding somewhere," Lucas told EW in 2008. "You hear about the Emperor, just like you do in Episode IV, but it's mostly about a whole different world. I mean, there are a million stories in the big city — you've only seen one of them."
  • Lucas also said that the new series wasn't really an action-adventure; he called it more of a "soap opera" with a "film noir" feel.

Of course, the news of the Lucasfilm sale is still settling in, and it's far from clear what that will mean to the television universe. Clearly the new "Star Wars" film will occupy the attention of much of the entertainment universe for some time to come.

But when it comes to more "Star Wars" on TV, it's not necessarily far, far away.

Tell us: Would you watch a live-action "Star Wars" TV show?

Jeryl Brunner: A Kim Kardashian Halloween

Halloween came early this year for Kim Kardashian who hosted the second annual Midori Green Halloween at Avenue in New York City this past Saturday. The reality star who says she's always been "fascinated with mermaids," dressed as a sultry green siren with a long blonde flowing mane. In fact, the wig, made from human hair, took over 10 hours to craft together. And the guy who Kardashian called her "captain" for the night just happened to be Kanye West. But not only was West a captain, he also played photographer taking photos of Kardashian and documenting the evening.

Other costumed guests La La Anthony, Simon Huck and Carla DiBello munched on Artichoke pizza and sipped Midori cocktails as a chorus of mummy dancers performed a number that played homage to Thriller. When DJ Kiss spun Kanye West's song, My Perfect Bitch, the room went nuts, especially when West himself placed his hands in the air to rev up the crowd. Yet, perhaps one of the sweetest moments occurred when Kardashian tried to navigate the sea of people in her nearly impossible to walk costume. West swept in and picked up her green mermaid tail to ensure that his main mermaid wouldn't trip.

Even though Gwyneth Paltrow's latest round of Hugo Boss ads were arguably dull, that doesn't mean the actress can't amp things up during the promotional tour.

While presenting the new "Boss Nuit Pout Femme" parfum in Madrid on Monday, the 40-year-old opted for skintight leather dress (aka Cindy Crawford's go-to look). As usual, Gwynnie kept the outfit simple with minimal accessories, save for a silver bracelet and matching black pumps.

Come to think of it, the mother of two has been piling on the sex appeal lately. Just last week, she turned heads at a gala in a risqué cutout dress. And, at last month's Toronto International Film Festival, the face of Max Factor stunned in a backless Tom Ford number. If this is what happens when you follow all of her GOOP tips, then we'll definitely be signing up for that newsletter...

Andy Cohen Spends Hurricane Sandy Alone On 'WWHL'

While many people along the East Coast were hunkered down to wait out Hurricane Sandy, Andy Cohen was with them in spirit on "Watch What Happens: Live." With no guest, he was left to entertain himself and his audience, which he did by showing up in pajamas, munching on popcorn and replaying some of his favorite clips from the show.

He did take the time to chat with the viewers, so it wasn't just Cohen talking to himself the entire time. During that bit, he figured out what his "Real Housewives" intro line would be.

"I may be a man, but I fight like a girl!" he declared.

Cohen was certainly having a good time, leading some fans online to wonder if he was perhaps a little drunk during the show. It's certainly possible, considering he Tweeted before the show that the forecast for the night was "toasty and boozy."

Check out "Watch What Happens: Live" -- usually with guests -- every Sunday through Thursday at 11 p.m. ET on Bravo.

Donnie Wahlberg dove straight into the action as he live-blogged the flooding that hit his home and millions of others on Monday night, when Hurricane Sandy hit the East Coast. The 43-year-old former New Kids on the Block singer shot several videos of himself wading through water in the lobby of his building and in his apartment. "This is just material shit, everyone be safe," he said.

Mark Wahlberg's brother isn't the only celebrity to have been impacted by the storm, of course. Coco Austin, wife of Ice-T, gave a curious live-report from her balcony in Edgewater, New Jersey, while other celebrities took to Twitter to express their support and well wishes.

'Hey, Colorado! Are You Voting Early?'

"Hey, Colorado -- are you voting early?"

That's what forever-handsome "Mad Men" star Jon Hamm asks in a new Obama campaign video encouraging early voting in the state. "It's easy if you make a plan: You can either vote by mail or vote early in person," Hamm says and then breaks down the process step-by-step.

To vote early by mail, Hamm reminds voters that if it's their first time, they may need to include a photo copy of their valid ID, to be sure and attach sufficient postage if dropping your ballot in the mail, or, skip the postal service and drop the ballot off at any early voting site or a poling place on Election Day.

Mail-in ballots must be received by county clerks by no later than 7 P.M. on Election Day, Nov. 6.

Next, Hamm walks Coloradans through in-person early voting. Hamm recommends voters start by looking up their polling location at BarackObama.com/lookup. Voters can also look up their polling places by county at the Colorado Secretary of State's website.

The only thing voters need to remember for in-person early voting is bringing their valid ID to an early voting polling place.

"Time is running out," Hamm says. "The last day you can vote early in person is November 2nd -- and that's it! So, what are you waiting for? Make your plan to vote early today."

Oliver Stone: Sandy Is 'Punishment' For Obama & Romney's Silence On Climate Change

$

Ever-honest director and author Oliver Stone stopped by HuffPost Live on Tuesday to discuss Barack Obama's presidency, climate change and his new book and documentary series, "The Untold History of the United States."

Stone is an equal opportunity critic, arguing that neither Obama nor Mitt Romney tackled climate change in a substantive way. "I was a little disappointed at the third debate when neither of them talked about climate control and the nature of the situation on Earth," Stone said. "I think there's kind of a weird statement coming right after ... this is a punishment ... Mother Nature cannot be ignored. That's all I thought about."

American exceptionalism is among Stone's "There's this attitude that we 'deserve' to be in charge," Stone said. "I don't believe in that ... We act as if we have this right of kingship -- we act as tyrants."

"We learn the history of the victors," Peter Kuznick, a history professor at American University and partner of Oliver Stone said. "We learn this triumphant version of history, that the United States is the shining city on the hill."

Despite his criticisms of the Obama administration, Stone freely admitted that he had already pre-voted in support of the president's reelection. The filmmaker's main reasons for casting his ballot in Obama's favor were based on the president's ability to think rationally and perform "brilliantly" in the context of debates.

Though both Stone and Kuznick predicted that Obama would win, Stone humored HuffPost Live host Alyona Minkovski with a guess at what a Romney presidency would look like. "It certainly means more militarism ... there's no talk of cutting back," Stone forecasted.

Stone, an ardent advocate of marijuana legalization, argued that "there is nothing harmful in marijuana" and had a clear message for anti-pot politicians: "Stop this nonsense."

When asked if the project's political tenor made it difficult to finance and produce, Stone said that while "The Untold History of the United States" is "love work," the series and book are "the most cumbersome project I've ever been involved with."

Getting the ten-hour series on television was a sizable task, Stone said, arguing that while PBS or other public stations may have once shown such a program, "they're so politicized they can't say anything -- they're scared of their own shadow." Instead, Stone argues PBS has settled for making "this Pro-American experience type stuff, where it has to be about America and America has to be the point of making the movie."

President George W. Bush also made it into the segment, albeit only as a playful aside. "I was in Bush's class [at Yale], so that tells you a bit about what we were taught at the time," Stone quipped.

Heidi Klum Cancels 2012 Halloween Party Due To Hurricane Sandy

Hurricane Sandy has wreaked havoc on New Yorkers' lives in myriad ways -- and even celebrities aren't immune. Heidi Klum has been forced to cancel her much-anticipated Halloween party, tweeting on Tuesday, "Hope you & your loved ones are safe after the storm. Canceling my Halloween party...postponing to a haunted Christmas." Attached was a pic of Heidi in her jacket and galoshes, posing on a sopping wet city street.

Heidi, a self-professed Halloween junkie, had been preparing for her annual bash for weeks. Known for her elaborate costumes, Klum was planning on going this year as Cleopatra. (Last year she went as a cadaver -- it was as scary as it sounds.)

But for now, Cleopatra will have to wait. And if instead, Heidi throws a giant Christmas party with holiday-themed costumes, we doubt anyone would be too disappointed.

Talk about monkeying around: Adorable funny couple Sacha Baron Cohen and Isla Fisher were hardly recognizable Monday night as they donned full-body cow (Cohen) and sock monkey (Fisher) costumes in Beverly Hills. The "Borat" star, 41, and "Bachelorette" actress, 36, have two young daughters, Olive, 5, and Elula, 2.

Cohen and Fisher are just a couple of the many celebrities who dressed up in his-and-her Halloween outfits. Fergie and husband Josh Duhamel transformed into reality stars Angelyne and Dennis Woodruff over the weekend, while Kim Kardashian and Kanye West hit up a New York party dressed up as a mermaid and a sailor.

Octomom is in rehab.

Nadya Suleman checked in to the Chapman House Drug Rehabilitation Center in Southern California to help deal with a dependence on the prescription anti-anxiety drug Xanax, according to TMZ.

The site reports that Suleman has left the care of her 14 children to three nannies and two friends.

“Ms. Suleman has been taking Xanax that was prescribed by her doctor to deal with her anxiety but she felt she needed a treatment program to help with her recovery,” her representative said in a statement to ABCNews.com. “She will be in treatment for 28 days or more if needed.”

The news comes weeks after Suleman avoided being charged for child neglect. The allegations were made by a woman who had become obsessed with Octomom's kids, according to Suleman's manager, Gina Rodriguez.

Halle Berry Met Her Fiance On A 'S--- Movie'

Most celebrities have mastered the art of praising any and all projects they've been involved with. Even with movies that are dead on arrival, the stars are often seen trying to talk them up on the talk show circuit. So fans were delighted when Halle Berry was very candid on "Chelsea Lately" about what she called the Hollywood "crapshoot."

Sometimes a movie just comes out terrible. "You don't expect it to be as bad as it is sometimes," she said.

But, as Chelsea Handler pointed out, "Even when a movie ends up crappy, other good things can come out of it. You met your fiance on a movie?î

"On a sh*t movie," Berry agreed.

That film was "Dark Tide," which came out in March 2012 and grossed less than $500,000. With a budget of $25 million, that's an epic disaster.

Still, that's where Berry met and fell in love with her co-star Olivier Martinez, and that's got to be worth at least the other $24.5 million!

Halle Berry can currently be seen in "Cloud Atlas," which made nearly $10 million in its opening weekend alone. "Chelsea Lately" airs every weeknight at 11 p.m. ET on E!

Parking Attendant Drowns At Meryl Streep's Apartment Building In Tribeca (Report)

In the aftermath of superstorm Sandy, the U.S. death toll has climbed to at least 39, according to the Associated Press.

One victim in New York was a parking garage worker at 92 Laight St. in Tribeca. The middle-aged man drowned after he became trapped in the building's basement by flash flooding, the New York Daily News reports.

Police have not yet released his name, but according to one witness, the man was stuck along with another attendant who managed to escape the rapidly rising waters.

"The water was raging like a river. We told them to get out. I couldn't understand why they were still messing around down there,” Kevin Gouche, told the paper.

The building, along with 424 Washington, make up The River Lofts -- a luxury development that is home to several celebrities including Meryl Streep and Gwyneth Paltrow. The development is located along the Hudson River in Zone A, where residents were told to evacuate prior to the storm.

During a press conference on Tuesday morning, Mayor Michael Bloomberg reported at least 10 deaths in the New York City area -- a number he said was likely to climb as officials assessed damage throughout the boroughs. By Tuesday evening, the death toll had increased to 18.

The superstorm left millions of residents along the East Coast without power; 750,000 of those were in Manhattan. Consolidated Edison (ConEd) told New York City residents that power could take about four days to restore, the Associated Press reports.

Derek Hartley: Scott Evans: One Of The People You May Know

$
0
0

Of course I know who Scott Evans is. The openly blond actor is the kid brother of Captain America star Chris Evans. He has made a name for himself in his own right with a memorable turn on One Life to Live playing a cop, one of our top five gay career fantasies, according to the Village People. Most recently I spotted him in the audience at the Emmy Awards, and a few weeks ago on the patio of a bar in West Hollywood. So, yes, I certainly know who he is. I just don't know him. But try telling that to Facebook.

The social networking behemoth that has turned our most casual encounters and passing thoughts into broadcasts of the highest import is also in the business of fostering friendships (old and nonexistent) with a little something called "People You May Know." You will occasionally see it pop up on the right side of the page as you scroll through the latest picture of a costume or oblique emotional reference ("That was harder than I could have imagined!") that is the hallmark of the modern Facebook experience. Occasionally, Facebook will successful identify a long-lost cousin slow to join the network or someone cool from high school you forgot you liked and wouldn't mind catching up with. But if you are a gay man on one of the coasts with a large network, mostly it will be a sea of random shirtless hunks and the occasional celebrity. And if you are me, it will be Scott Evans, again and again and again.

I don't know why Facebook has such a hard-on for the idea of me being friends with Scott. Yes, he is very handsome, and I am partial to blonds, but we are in no way connected in the real world, not even tangentially. At least when Facebook offers up Andrew Rannells, star of The New Normal, it can be mildly justified by the fact that I met him one time at a party two years ago and did see him on Broadway in The Book of Mormon. I haven't added Andrew yet, but as I have watched the number of friends we have in common swell to 27 in subsequent "People You May Know" appearances, it would seem that I am one of the few people I know showing any reluctance to add him. I could even understand Facebook suggesting Scott's brother Chris. I did pay good money to see The Fantastic Four, after all, and that has to be worth something.

Perhaps it is just me and my old-fashioned ways and only wanting to be "friends" with people I am actually friends with. People take the whole Facebook friendship thing way too personally, as if it were some kind of actual representation of your closeness with another person. I can add James Lipton, Rex Reed and Pee Wee Herman on Facebook all day long, but that doesn't guarantee that we will all be taking in the autumn colors in Central Park together (unfortunately). Never mind the steady parade of strippers, porn stars and Ivy Leaguers who always just happen to be shirtless whom I will also never befriend in real life, sadly.

I ruthlessly remove people from my friend list on their birthday if there has been more than a year of inactivity between us. Trust me: They are so busy with well wishes that they don't notice. In my dreams my Facebook friends number drops below 50, which would more accurately represent my circle (sorry about your ghost town, Google+), but in my waking hours I would settle for under 500. It is hard for me to turn down the publicists or advertisers who deliver for my show or the cousins I have never met whom my mother has connected with, and since I gave that great wedding toast over the summer, the friend requests I receive from people I didn't even say "hello" to has swelled. Guilt and vanity prevent me from denying that last group, but never fear, they all have birthdays in their immediate future.

I suppose I should be flattered, and Scott Evans should be flattered, too. A combination of ordinary people and a computer algorithm have joined forces to bring us together. A more connected world is a better world, right? I guess I don't mind the "staying connected" part; I just wish that if people are going to take it all so personally, it would in fact be personal. So the next time I am walking down Santa Monica Boulevard and see Scott Evans, I will be sure to say "hello." Perhaps he has been wondering why my random mug has been appearing on his page, too. And maybe then we will go from being "People You May Know" to people you know, which is so much better.

#DisneyStarWars Lights Up Twitter

LOS ANGELES — Movie nerds went nuts on Twitter upon hearing the news Tuesday that Disney was buying Lucasfilm for $4.05 billion. Many were psyched about the prospect of three new "Star Wars" movies, starting with the tentatively titled "Episode 7" in 2015, while others were worried that the Disney empire would ruin the Evil Empire.

Either way, fans had fun thinking up mashups of these two cultural institutions, flooding Twitter feeds with the hashtag "DisneyStarWars." Among the most amusing mixes:

PHOTOS: Heidi Klum Goes Makeup Free For A Good Cause

It's not very often that we get to see supermodels without a stitch of makeup. Aside from the rare sighting of a Kate Moss or a Brooke Shields au naturale, these ladies are usually perfectly done-up every time they step into the public eye. So what would make an industry big-whig like Heidi Klum take it all off in front of the camera on purpose? Why a good cause, of course.

The 39-year-old posed for BBC Children In Need's first-ever "BearFaced Day" campaign that will raise money for disadvantaged children in the United Kingdom. The official day is November 9th, and women across the UK are encouraged to join in on the makeup-free day to boost awareness for the cause. We clearly have no qualms about going without makeup, but if we looked as good as Heidi does in the photo, we don't think we'd see a need to drop another cent on cosmetics ever again.

As we've well-documented, the mother-of-four is used to having fun with her beauty look (dip-dyed pink hair and matching mommy-daughter lipstick are just a couple of trends she's tried recently), but there's absolutely no hiding behind any gimmicks in this campaign. While Heidi looked flawless in her portrait, the Rankin-lensed shoot featured two other lovely faces who are more well-known across the pond: Louise Redknapp and Harry Style's ex Caroline Flack.

And even though we're based stateside, we plan on spending the day sans makeup on November 9th -- hey, what could be better than joining in on a good cause while supporting a little female empowerment? Check out the gorgeous shots below and tell us what you think. Would you go makeup-free for a day?

Halloween is celebrated every year on Oct. 31, but there are plenty of celebrities who act like every day is an opportunity to wear a costume.

We're not saying it's a bad thing, but Halloween holds a special place in our hearts because it's an opportunity to go all out and get as crazy as we want to be.

When every day is Halloween it doesn't seem like quite so much fun:
